A list of Sleipnir's influences. · 6:05am Sep 26th, 2016
It's no secret that Sleipnir draws heavy inspiration from fanworks, and the nature of canon defilement in general, though there are a number of influences that come from outside the fandom that I feel I should list as a means of both providing insight into some of Sleipnir's creative decisions, and as a means of providing recommendations to the five people who read these posts.
1) The SCP Foundation - This probably isn't much of a shock, given that Sleipnir takes place in a derilict research facility that primarily worked with horrors that it barely understood, as well as the test logs that were a part of early chapters. The initial concept for Sleipnir was actually an MLP/SCP crossover that took place in Equestria's version of the Foundation. You can read more here fhttp://www.scp-wiki.net/
2) The works of H.P. Lovecraft - Perhaps a bit less obvious, but both Puck and the Administrator are based on the character Nyarlathotep, especially his background looming presence persona. The book of Newt is also based off the famous Necronomicon. Some of his more famous works are the Call of Cthulhu and the Shadow out of Time.
3) The works of Robert E. Howard- More of a mechanical influence than a narrative one, but I try to model my fight scenes after his. What I try to do is I give each beat of the fight only one short sentence that can be read relatively quickly while getting as much effect as I can out of the small number of words. Robert E. Howard is best known for the creation of Conan the Barbarian and Solomon Kane.
Thanks for doing this.
My stories end up from a mishmash of different influences.
I have two books on Solomon Kane.
I read them years ago.
There is a guy on DA who did the Call of Cthulhu in Dr. Suess form.
Rhymes and all. Let me know and I can get you a link.
I wonder if Sleipnir would also make a good choose your own adventure and or adventure game?
No joke. I have an Android SDK and phones to put the game on.
No joke, I know I can do the choose your own adventure for sure.
