My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 6 Episode 21: "Every Little Thing She Does" (SPOILERS) · 4:02pm Sep 24th, 2016

Remember Starlight Glimmer? Remember how she's a thing that's part of the show now?

Remember how the writers pretty much forgot all about that?

Well...here's your goddamn Starlight Glimmer episode!

The episode opens with Twilight and Starlight playing teleport tag all over Equestria. Then transfiguring bunches of things into other things, then having a little magic duel to practice their shield spells--which ends up wrecking the entire library because Starlight's shield is too strong.

Yeah, they just reminded us how OP Starlight is.

(Though for all Starlight's ridiculous power, Twilight is still an alicorn--and was somehow able to transfigure something into an egg that hatched a live chick. :twilightoops:)

Twilight reminds Starlight that she hasn't tackled a friendship lesson in a while, which Starlight is not enthusiastic about. Twilight and Spike are off to Canterlot for a thing, and Twilight gives Starlight friendship homework in the meantime.

Starlight talks herself into doing something outrageously stupid in an effort to impress Twilight. (Sounds familiar, doesn't it?) She rounds up the rest of the Mane Six to try to combine five friendship lessons into one big MESS, completely missing the point of spending time with friends. When this backfires, Starlight has a Twilight-level freakout and starts casting spells to make everything happen the way she wants it to...and ends up putting a high-level magic whammy on Twilight's friends, turning them into mind-controlled slaves. :facehoof:

The mind-controlled Mane Six can only follow Starlight's instructions literally, which causes complete chaos because Starlight can't leave any of them unattended for even a few minutes without causing a disaster. By the time Twilight and Spike return from Canterlot, Pinkie has torched the kitchen, Fluttershy is crawling with bugs, and the castle is flooded thanks to Rainbow Dash creating an indoor thunderstorm.

Nice going, Starlight Failbag!

After Twilight and Spike fix the worst of the damage (to both the Manes and the castle), both of them call Starlight out on missing the point of a friendship lesson entirely and Twilight reads her the riot act for enslaving her friends.

Starlight reveals to Twilight that was afraid of disappointing her by being bad at the things she was tasked to do with her friends. Twilight tells her that the lesson wasn't the things they were doing together, but just spending time together. Starlight realizes that she did, in fact, completely miss the point of the episode, and goes to find her (extremely hung-over) friends to apologize. The Manes are pretty pissed at her, but accept her apology and decide to help clean up the mess in the castle.

Starlight finally spends time with her new friends and gets closer to them without even realizing it, then chillaxes with her friends on the balcony in an "everybody laughs" ending.

So this episode is basically "Lesson Zero", "Apple Family Reunion", and "Castle Sweet Castle" rolled up into one. It also holds the record for the most uses of the word "chillax" in the entire series to date. Unfortunately, being a mishmash of regurgitated plot threads from past episodes and just...really being a kind of creepy, ugly episode overall with REALLY disturbing implications, I have to give this one a 5/10.

Maybe the writers will do something right and Starlight will either be the villain of the last two episodes and end in Tartarus repenting for her sins, or she'll valiantly sacrifice herself and we can finally forget she existed.

Seeing the ponies acting robotic with a monotone voice can be a bit creepy.

It's like Maud Pie, but somethings horribly wrong.

Slower buildup than Lesson Zero, but worse implications.

Also, Twilight needs to store the mind rape spells in a less easily accessible location.

Meh, overall I agree with you, but I give it a 3/10 it really was a filler episode.

Yeap. Not terrifying in the slightest. Not one bit.

Also, another X happens because Y is utterly incompetent at Z plotline. Yay.:facehoof:

I agree with your argumentation and rating: 5/10.

Especially I expected them to be much more pissed after the brainwashing; at least I would be.

Somehow I would like this...

Say, had you also seen lots of potentially OoCSsT in this episode?

For me, the hilarity of the episode, as well as how relatable Starlight was in this, made it the best of the season for me. It's also the third episode this season to get a 10/10 from me.

I didn't mind the creepiness of it, since its actually pretty tame compared to things from other episodes.

4224221 There's definitely some OOCSSTs that can come out of this, but really when it comes to being out of context, Applejack's bizarre rantings take the exploded cake.

4224223

as well as how relatable Starlight was in this

I'm going to assume you're referring to the nervous procrastination.

Well, at least this episode actually pointed out what Starlight did was wrong, and her friends didn't just magically forgive her right away. "No Second Prances" was a little better though for reformed Starlight, and I'm probably going to have to wait until the finale to see if they can actually fully sell me on her. Right now she's just a one trick horse.

My only enjoyment came from seeing starlight fail. Also I hoped after the thing with Big Mac that she learned that mind control and friendship don't mix

Great. Super. From last week's episode in which AJ learned "Some ponies just don't learn squat" and wound up wearing Daphne Blake's irony hat, we segue messily to "Son of NO, STUPID!!!" so that Starlight can totally miss her own oh-so-obvious point.

4224209

No no no you're thinking it all wrong. What's going to happen is a certain pony will get some extra appendages.

What don't look at me like that I'm just saying it wouldn't surprise me...

On a serious note though, I think DHX really blew it with her this season. Why introduce a new character and only have three or four episodes (out of twenty something or other)? The least they could do was have her at least make small appearances in other episodes but I digress...and yes I actually do like Starlight

Applejack was the best overall in my opinion in this episode though.:ajsmug:

4224399 Why would Twilight get extra arms for?

4224411

....

I'm not even sure how to respond to that. :rainbowlaugh:

Well today was a Starlight episode, and it was bad. Not like this you're gonna make love her Hasbro.

Where was really a lot of bad things in this episode. No only being OP in magic, she also remind us that she doesn't listen or doesn't learn her lessons at all.

What is baffling is Twilight saying she is not mad at her. She should be mad. Discord, Chrysalis, King Sombra and Sunset Shimmer, all have use mind controlled spells and they didn't got easily off the hook or at all for that.

Then comes Starlight reasons for doing this,... she's afraid failing backing a cake. :facehoof: Not only was it as stupid as her reason to have enslave a town and stealing Cutie Marks, but it's inaccurate. She's perfectly capable of backing a cake, she done it when trying to make friends with Mrs Cake, just to be scold by her just after.

Then comes the biggest blender of the episode, which will certainly get sin from Moliminous' "Everything wrong with...". It's either the writers or Starlight voice actress who goofed up, but when she comes to the plastered ponies, she said "It got out of hand.":facehoof: Guys, ponies remember?

Afterward, even if the group was mad at her, they shrug it off very quickly after a simple "I'm sorry." and hey everything is alright now. At least props for Pinkie being the last for forgiving.

Or though I liked AJ's reference of Braveheart and Spiderman, plus the reference from the Super Cider Squeezy episode, as I said bad episode.

If this weren't a kids' show, I'd say they should have executed Starlight for this.

4224215 How many times has Twilight had/used something like that now? I count at least 3

4224209 Actually, Starlight is apparently gonna have a large role in the finale. As a good guy

4224425 maybe its because, oh i dont know...

TWILIGHT MADE THE ENTIRE TOWN OBSESS OVER A FUCKING DOLL DUE TO SIMILAR REASONING!

4224221 Eeyup, you'd think they'd wanna run after her a bit.

4224641

:facehoof: How did forget that episode.

Alright, I'm an idiot, but it doesn't change most of what I said.

I did enjoy one or two parts of the episode, but the rest was... yeah.:unsuresweetie::twilightsheepish: I honestly thought Starlight would've gotten a bigger reprimand for what she did.

4224699

:twilightangry2:: No magic for a week!

Starlight: Aww... :(

4225324

Uh...

You realize I was joking right? :unsuresweetie: I know Starlight wouldn't be qualified, especially since its only been one season. But considering we're getting alicorns shoved down our throats I was only saying it wouldn't be a surprise to me at this point.

4225355

You make good points. But you forgot about Flurry Heart.

Josh Haber destroyed whatever was canon with alicorns. :facehoof:

4225371

I agree. I also see from other posts that this episode is starting a wildfire of comments and opinions.

I still wish Sunset was in the show instead. :ajsleepy:

But considering we're getting alicorns shoved down our throats

You make good points. But you forgot about Flurry Heart.

Josh Haber destroyed whatever was canon with alicorns.

...so an alicorn giving birth to an alicorn baby is "getting them shoved down our throats" and "destroying canon" in your mind?

Despite the fact that it makes complete sense biologically and genetically?

Well okay then. retard

You know, maybe Starlight would be a better and more interesting character if she didn't completely vanish from reality every time the episode doesn't focus directly on her...

I always maintain that Starlight would have been a better character if she stayed a villain. At least for once MLP got a villain who is a villain due to their peculiar ideology (communism), not lust for power or joy of pure evil. But the show never actually exposed her view as being wrong. Clash of ideologies would have been interesting to explore.

And now, the creators try their damnest to make her the 7th pony, but every time I see her, I'm just reminded that she is nowhere near Sunset's level of charisma and charm. She'd be good as a supporting character. But for now, all she has to offer is her complete lack of understanding how to socially interact and anxiety caused by it. It's gotten old already.

Also, it's not that Starlight is OP, it's that Twilight is not as powerful as many would want her to be. And that's a good thing.

4225456

I would agree but I thought you could only become an alicorn, not be born as one. (I think Rarity asked that question.)

My point being is on the alicorn thing I'm just confused one what is what but I'm getting off the subject. :twilightsheepish:

I think the finale will cement Starlight's Reformation as Season 4 did with Discord. That's just my thought anyway.

4226484

I thought you could only become an alicorn, not be born as one.

Show me where in canon it ever said this. Just because Celestia and Luna are surprised by it doesn't count. Again, it makes sense biologically.
