Finally...a new story... · 1:46pm Aug 23rd, 2016
I did it!
For those of you that write, you find that sometimes stuff you put down just doesn't make your skirt blow up when you read it later. Sometimes it just won't come together. Other times, it does come together, but there's no amount of polish that'll save it. You rub away, and rub away, but it just won't shine...
So then, you stare at it, wishing that it was S1, Ep. 1&2, and knowing that if you were really pitching it to the Fausticorn, she'd smile softly, give it a once over, and if she had the time to be an editor, bury it under red pencil marks like your high-school English teacher did, just before she handed it back to you on the tines of her pitchfork...
Apologies, Lauren. I know you wouldn't really do that...or maybe you would. That Idea really was hideous...
"Spitfire's Callsign"...wasn't quite like that, but it was harder than I expected. Some episodes I see, I can knock out a follow on story in a day. "The End of Starlight Glimmer" was one of those. Glimglam and her Socialist Utopia. Great when you're one of the nomenklatura, not so much when you're from the proletariat. So, reverse situation. Throw her in with Chrissy, have her discover the truth about the disipline of the hive from the victim's perspective.
Of course, MLP:FiM changed that, but so what? It still worked.
"Spitfire" was completely different. I wanted to tell a joke. Order barking Spitfire; little miss hot stuff. The mare that sometimes loses her way, gets too competitive.
The side whispered about in "Newbie Dash". THAT Spitfire...
And it was HARD. You're just satisfied with embarassing her, it's easy. But she's a leader in an intensely competitive team. You have to give her props for being that leader...
The save? NC Mares...
He did this AWESOME picture of Spitfire, not just doing wing-ups, but a real Zen pose, all balance and tension and skill and POWER. It was incredible.
And I got her. That picture is included with her story...
"Spitfire's Callsign" is a comedy. But it's a comedy about a pony that hasn't quite figured it all out, and is still learning, still developing. She screws up, especially trying to win. But she learns from it.
The 'Bolts NEED Dash. They know it instinctively. She's their anchor when they get too competitive, and their compass needle spins. And they moved Heaven and Equestria to get her.
I love this show...
