To Chapter or Not to Chapter? · 9:11pm Aug 21st, 2016
I didn't mention this in the last post, but I'm also idly working on a sequel to my controversial short story Back to Normal. It's not front-burner, but it's one of those things that could jump forwards unexpectedly.
Is that what that is...
My question is simple. I'm wondering if I should have chaptered Back to Normal originally. In retrospect, I think I would have. It's ten-kay words long and takes place in multiple scenes with a letter to Celestia at the end.
If you think chaptering it isn't a bad idea, I'm going to restructure the story into chapters before I write the sequel. Doing that would make it more likely that the sequel will end up being a longer story, which I'm already leaning toward (but not much longer: 15–20k, mayhaps).
Also, I didn't really think of Back to Normal as being Dark, but oh, the apple-storm that resulted by leaving that tag off. If the sequel discusses the aftermath of Nightfall's decision, which was itself why ponies demanded the Dark tag, would the sequel automatically necessitate that tag?
I vote for chapters.
And as for Dark tag...
Hmm, if chapters will make it easier for people to read who come to it from the sequel, I suppose it's worth it.
Ha, forgot about the dark tag issue with that one. Can't remember what I felt back then. Should the sequel have it? Hrm. Hard to say. I guess a lot of it depends on how you plan to end the story. But even still, if the general tone of the story is dark or foreboding, then yeah probably.
