A Little Sun and Moon Rant · 5:49pm Aug 13th, 2016

There's been a lot of stuff generated about Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon, including a Pokemon that looked official, but in all likelihood is fake when you realize the source of it all. I keep hearing people say these Pokemon, and new forms of older Pokemon fit the Alola region well, and I have to agree on some of those while others I have to say "Really? Because I don't see it, I'm going have to have you explain that to me a bit." The Alola region is based on Hawaii, we can see that, and with a little research, you can see how some Pokemon fit into the setting. Whether it's the environment itself, or some aspect of Hawaiian culture that can be found easily, but isn't really looked into by most folks. But really, how many of the new Pokemon actually fit into Hawaiian culture, as of now, the only ones I can think of are 2 or 3. Those being, the Alolan Exeggutor, Rowlet and Popplio. Exeggutor is an easy one to see, it's a palm tree, and palm trees are all around tropical environments like Hawaii. Rowlet and Popplio take a little more digging, turns out they tie into Hawaiian culture better than you might think. Rowlet is an owl, not hard to see there, and in the Hawaiian culture owls have a spiritual significance as symbols of protection, sounds like what some pokemon are known to do (I wouldn't be surprised if in the Pokedex entry on it or its evolutions there was a statement about protection or guarding people and/or pokemon). Popplio's a bit harder to see the connection to, Hawaiian lore has the Hawaiian Monk Seal as a symbol of immortality, and a recently semi-confirmed (I'm going to treat all "confirmed" leaks as partially confirmed 'til the games themselves prove them) leak show's one of its evolutions having a form that is similar to an immortal entity. But the rest seem to have a stronger connection to Japanese culture, Pokemon having a connection to Japanese culture comes as little surprise since was born in Japan, but you would think the Alola region would have more Pokemon that tie into Hawaiian culture. I've doing a little digging Hawaiian culture because of all this and found some Hawaiian lore that could be great sources for a collection of new Pokemon designed for the region. Entities like Mo'o and the Night Marchers offer up good bases for some potential new Pokemon in the region, now how much of Hawaii's lore have the development team for the games looked we as the players may never really know, but to those of us who are a bit more in the know about Hawaiian lore and culture finding Pokedex entries on the new Pokemon that touch on those aspects could be a nice a little treat.

I guess we're going to see how far that goes as a truth when the games finally arrive.

Please share this as much as possible.

I also did this rant on deviant art, so if this looks a little familiar that's why
