My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 6 Episode 13: "Stranger Than Fanfiction" (SPOILERS) · 4:02pm Jul 30th, 2016

Aaaaaaaaaaaaand we're back! :pinkiehappy:

Season six returns with a Daring Do episode featuring a special guest star: Patton Oswalt! You might know him best as the voice of Remy from Ratatouille. Here, he plays a pony named Quibble Pants.

Well okay! Let's take a look at the episode.

Twilight's bummed out that she can't go to the Daring Do convention because she has to help with the Friendship Summit in Griffonstone. It's especially harsh because A.K. Yearling herself is going to be there, and she never attends conventions. Rainbow's enthusiasm isn't helping.

At the convention, Rainbow meets Quibble Pants while dorking out over a replica of the tile trap from Sapphire Stone. They wander around the convention together being awesome dorks. Then Rainbow finds out that Quibble Pants is one of THOSE fans. The kind that refuses to acknowledge that everything past "Ring of Destiny" exists.

Rainbow and Quibble get in an epic nerd fight right in the middle of the convention. Later, she meets up with Daring herself, who's at the convention because she's in the middle of an adventure and trying to beat Caballeron to the punch. Rainbow's excited to be involved in another Daring Do adventure, but also wants Daring to help her settle the Quibble Pants thing.

Daring using the convention full of cosplayers as camouflage is brilliant. Caballeron being insulted by the convention is hilarious.

While tailing Caballeron and arguing with Quibble Pants, Rainbow and QP both get bagged by Caballeron's henchponies. QP thinks it's an "adventucation" package and doesn't believe any of what's happening is real, so he keeps acting like a smug jackass.

I wonder why Rainbow just sat there and let herself be chained up. I mean, she's Rainbow Dash. :rainbowhuh:

RD and QP manage to escape from Caballeron's henchponies (thanks to QP), and they escape the jungle, with QP being a ranting nerd all the way until Real Danger happens. Then they're recaptured after unwittingly leading Caballeron and his goons straight to the temple they were searching for. :facehoof:

QP still thinks this whole thing isn't real and keeps being a jerk. While he's ranting, he sets off half the traps in the temple. Then a giant alligator monster shows up, and QP finally clues in that the whole thing is real...right before he's saved by Daring Do herself.

Then he goes right back to being a jerk while Daring is trying to do her thing. He criticizes every little thing Daring does, then solves the riddle of the treasure room in the most ass way possible.

After they're out of danger and Daring takes off with the artifact, RD and QP come to an understanding about how they can be fans--and friends--even though they don't agree on every little thing.

The end credits, instead of the usual music, have Quibble Pants just ranting away about fanfiction.

Fun episode. I wanna see it again! :pinkiehappy: 10/10.

Easter eggs: Fluttershy's otaku drawings, a Daring Do pillow cover. (Probably also a whole bunch I missed--I never catch everything on one viewing.)

That episode was way better than I expected it to be.

I loved that one of Caballeron's goons had bought a Daring Do body pillow.

Welp. The Rainbow shippers have more to work with. Go them.

Also, I gotta be honest, Quibble kinda reminds me of you, Myth.

Probably the second best episode of the season, it's hilarious!

Also, are we sure Dave Polsky didn't secretly write this? It's got that old Polsky humor that still seeps into his writing from time to time.

This is one of the few episodes this season we actually agree on, since I loved it as well.

And I think, of the three Daring Do episodes so far, this is the best of them, since it's the funniest.

i like it and i watch it on netflix before it aired on tv

Man, Quibble was Mr. Negative Pants. :trollestia: Quibble kept saying it was fake with the proof being right there in front of him. How did he manage to pick that lock so fast? Does Quibble ever just shut up with the ranting?:ajsmug: We get it, you're not convinced, Quibble, but let the others have some fun. It really was awesomeness with RD and, of course, Daring Do. Quibble's rant through the end credits was funny, I actually thought RD would smack him.:rainbowlaugh: I agree with the ep being awesome.

4122177 I'm with you on expectations.

4122202 You don't have to be sorry. I think that's pretty cool.

4122180 .....yyyyyyyeah, no. :rainbowwild:

Mmmmmeeeyup. :pinkiehappy:

Nothing bad. Like he said at the end there, it's okay to have different opinions. I just saw him being critical of the later books in the series and couldn't help but draw the connection. 'Cause you're a critic.

QP is kind of a dick. That said, interesting episode.

I secretly hope so! The got Patten's character do to a tee with his actual personality. He's an awesome stand-up comedian but at the same time he so negative! I shouldn't laugh, but I am. I hope they bring him back for more.

The background business was amazing this episode. Frex, while they're having their first nerd fight, behind them is a consession stand with a roller rack full of roasted carrots- one of which is that one that's been out for half a day and is a greasy wrinkled log, because nopony is cleaning out the old ones. Said stand attendant is busy listening to their slap fight and isn't having any of QP's shit from her expression and eyeline. Also, the temple art is awesome, very mid-period Pony Mayan.

I thought that this episode was great, and reminds me greatly of SEVERAL things (QP's attitude towards the later Daring Do novels reminds me HEAVILY of a friend of mine who feels the same way about the Star Wars prequels and denies they exist, even though they did bring a few good things), plus the Last Crusade reference at the end absolutely KILLED ME. Also, Patton Oswald, that man can pull off snarkish jerk and be absolutely hilarious.

4122191 That was probably a mistake. It was probably supposed to be "Fault in Our Cutie Marks", but Hasbro and DHX probably didn't want that episode spoiled before it airs on Discovery Family.

4122261 no go look on netflix

4122264 I know it's on Netflix, I'm just speculating why it was on there to begin with.

Considering that Rainbow Dash kinda rubbed salt in Twily's wounds, watching her get annoyed by Patton Oswalt remains one of my favorite MLP moments.

Dash tends to go passive when Daring Do gets involved. Perhaps she thinks it'd feel wrong to take out the bad guys before Daring gets a chance. (After all, it'd sabotage the next book!)

But yeah, this was a fun episode, if uncomfortably metareferential at times. (Seriously, that body pillow. :fluttershyouch:)

This episode is awesome, a perfect one for the welcome back of the show.

I really like the moral at the end, it's true and applies to everything and everyone. The kinda thing I liked in old cartoons and why I love MLP: FIM.

The only thing that bothers me is how there is some kind of separate world going on in universe. Rainbow Dash is a (former) bearer of Harmony and a hero who along with the other bearers saved Equestria a number of time, strong ties with the rulers, now a Wonderbolt, as appear several times in the media and she is still not recognize on sight by the ponies? Even in a world of colourful pastel ponies she does still stick out pretty much.

I enjoyed this episode. It was funny and awesome! Quibble Pants was kind of a jerk, but at least he has redeeming sides to him. I just hope the fandom doesn't end up shipping him and Rainbow together too much because I still support SoarinDash.

Patton Oswalt! You might know him best as the voice of Remy from Ratatouille.

I guess you're right, though I recognized him more as the male voice of Jesse from Telltale's Minecraft Story Mode since it is more recent.

My headcanon is that Fluttershy was at the convention in a disguise/cosplay. She set up an anime stand that RD passed by when keeping an eye out for Cabelleron.

Anyway, I liked the episode as well! The ending reminded me of how "Ocarina of Time (with Lyrics)" ended.

Fun start, funny easter eggs, good moments, but probably the worst episode so far (i love most episodes so it isn't much to say this one was bad, but it wasn't very good at all)

He seems to be the Element Of Entitled Fanboys. Heh. Five bucks says that the sick burn in cartoon form totally fails to register with the dickchoads being pilloried.

Fluttershy's otaku drawings

Yeah, I caught those too....wonder why they're there... :ajsmug:

Another Easter Egg: on the day it aired, the GalaCon in Germany started.

4124252 I...don't think that counts as an Easter Egg. :facehoof: An Easter Egg is something actually hidden within the episode, that any viewer can see at any time if they're looking for it.

What you're describing is a coincidence.

Fluttershy's otaku drawings? I didn't see them.

4124363 They're there; hit up Derpibooru and you'll probably find screencaps of them.

4124357 That could not have been a coincidence. An episode volving around a convention that aired on the same day a convention of that show started? They knew.

4124376 It still isn't an Easter egg.

I recognize Quibble's voice as Remy
