Working the shaft · 11:03am Jul 26th, 2016
You ever have one of those days when you just don't think you can handle it? When there's so much wood around you that you can only take one at a time? I just had one of those days.
The first one's still easy enough. You stroke the pole a few times, and it all just flows. But then comes the next, and the next, and the next. And you can feel your hand cramping up, but you keep soldiering on. And then there's that gnarly one that demands extra attention. You bend forward and backward, to find all those sensitive spots, so you can clean it real well.
And it is a certain feeling of victory and elation when all that gooey stuff comes flying off. Even if it does get all over your hands, and sometimes your face, and some might even stick to your hair.
And by the end you're all sweaty and sticky and out of breath. But you've done it. You've cleaned all those shafts of hard, dirty wood. And that's a satisfying feeling.
Still, removing old moss from the garden fence isn't much fun.
What? What did you think I was talking about?
Just be careful not to work them too hard, or they'll all fall down once you're done with them.
... sensitive spots?
Yeah, it's a thankless job, polishing wood all day. The only 'tip' you get is at the top of the limb.
Oddly enough? That's exactly what I thought you were talking about.
That is an excellent post.
Is it odd I got turned on reading that?
Yeah, a tough job, but it needs to be done.
Bravo
Just Bravo
Is it an innate talent or an aquired skill? Probably both. Well done.
