I'm in academia, and my recent trip to China was for an academic conference and to touch base with potential collaborators at a university in that area. But this trip is just because I really want to see Bangkok and I had some vacation time saved up. :-)

"Fun" fact, that song is banned in Thailand. You will suffer consequences if you sing it; I remember someone getting caned, at least. It's due to the negative things that the American sings about the city; I think the Thai authorities missed the fact that the dude singing it was explicitly supposed to be an asshole.
