Okay... some are not happy with my third chapter.
I do agree, it seems harsh the way Blueblood gets treated, but he brought it on himself. His own father told him it was reckless, and he should have heeded the tone of voice Stellar used to answer his threats. But it seems the biggest 'Huh?' factor was the crowd in the area. Hey! These are NOT Ponyville ponies! These are bored aristocrats looking to see a little spice in their lives. Plus Stellar did put on a hay of a show for them.
And No! Stellar wasn't actually trying to kill Blueblood. She wanted to mess him up, yeah, but she knows the same healing spells that Twilight does, and knew nothing she actually did to him was fatal. Remember, she went in to the arena without any weapons, many of which she could have easily gotten from the Guard arsenal as a serving lieutenant, and used them. She set out to distract and disarm him, looking for a knockout that could have made it easier to declare that she wouldn't kill somepony that couldn't fight back. But no, he went and wounded her, which brought Grandpa's sword into play because she was wearing his armor, and the two are linked as the aftermath of the fight showed. She knew he was dead when she saw Mort standing behind him, looking at him intensely. That's why she told him he was already dead.
Okay, I've added a bit more to that section of the scene to clear things up a little, but only as much as I think it needs. I hope this clears up for those who PM'ed me over the motivations behind the fight and Blueblood's death. There will be more in Chapter Four of the fallout from both viewpoints.
