Synopsis: When a family emergency arises, Applejack is forced into the uncomfortable high class world to help a pony in need.
Summary:
It all starts on a normal morning. Applejack is cooking breakfast because... we don’t see enough of earth ponies doing stuff. Suddenly Applebloom rushes through the door, panting, holding a letter in her mouth. Applejack takes the letter and starts to read it, both Big Mac and Granny Smith gathered around her. The letter is from Uncle Orange, requesting their help in *gulp* Manehatten
*Opening Theme*
Applejack, Big Mac, and Applebloom are on a train headed to the big city. Big mac is quiet, as usual. Applebloom is talkative, as usual, randomly spouting on about possible city-related cutie marks she could earn. Applejack however, is short tempered at Applebloom’s over enthusiastic attitude. After snapping at her, she reveals the reason why: she is afraid of returning to the big city, because of how foreign it is to her. Her gaze returns to the window, Manehatten approaching in the distant sunset.
They arrive at Manehatten it is night, but the city is alive as ever. Both Applebloom and Big Mac are stunned, but AJ is much more easily able to adjust because of her past. She leads them to Uncle Orange’s house, only to find it empty. They start walking the street, asking for any possible information: however, they are all ignored due to their “uncivilized tongue.” Applejack tries again, and a brief flicker of memory of her childhood pops into her mind. After reverting back to her old Manehatten accent, she discovers that her uncle is at the city hall. While walking there, Applebloom asks why she didn’t do that in the first place; her only reply is because that’s not who she is.
They arrive at town hall and run up to Uncle Orange. Applejack falls back into her natural speaking voice to greet family, but is quickly told off by her uncle. He explains the situation: He’s been accused of being a liar by the most important ponies in town, the Royals, and if he cannot convince them of the truth than he might as well leave. Applejack gladly steps up to help defend the family honor.
She stands in front of the family of Royals, attesting to the honesty of her uncle. Despite having a flawless manehatten accent, she finds she is quickly losing the crowd. Her uncle starts to panic, for he has no-one else to turn to. Finally, Applejack throws off the false accent and visage she’s been presenting and talks to them in her rough country accent, delivering a much more charismatic speech about lying to herself and to others than would have been possible when talking in her fancy accent.
The crowd looks stunned, and Applejack feels she has done something wrong; However, she does not regret being true to herself. Father Royal approaches Applejack, and commends her on her bravery and loyalty to herself, and apologizes to Uncle Orange, for is he helped teach such an honest and upstanding mare, he must be just as honest himself.
After a brief trip through Manehatten again, during which AJ is true to her country accent and received much more warmly (for some magical reason that only exists in TV and Fanfiction) they part ways with Uncle Orange. On the train ride home, AJ dictates a letter to Princess Celestia about honesty, and how to be honest to others you must remain true to yourself.
