    Watch (This) Space

    Hello everyone!

I've been gone on hiatus for a few years. I stopped watching My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic in the middle of the seventh season. But a few months ago, my interest was rekindled. And the last two seasons were fantastic. The high point, for me, is the new characters -- the Student Six -- who breathed fresh life into the show.

Where I Hang My Hat VI: Castle · 6:39pm Jul 12th, 2016

art by Slouping

Today, I bring you what is likely going to be the pièce de résistance of Angel’s settlement building: the Castle! :raritystarry:

This has been my project for just over two straight weeks. It has taken Angel a full week of in-game time to complete this reconstruction and refurbishing of Castle. (And that is even with my efforts to cheat the clock. This would have been made for a very boring Angel’s Pip-Boy Diary entry. :rainbowlaugh: )

Now as you know, Castle is absolutely huge. And I have put a ton of work into it. So the gallery below for this settlement is going to be much larger than in the previous “Where I Hang My Hat” blogs. I do hope you enjoy it!

First, though, I want to share a happy note about this community. There is a Fallout: Equestria webcomic in the works, and those who are making it want to attend comic con this year with several finished pages to show off. But misfortune struck the artist for the webcomic, Summerusagi, who suffered an injury that has left her unable to draw for at least a month. The project reached out to me, asking if I could put out a request for help. I intended to do so in the top portion of this blog. But it turns out that I didn’t have to.

from Dannykat:

Kkat, I just want to inform you that something pretty amazing is happening. I went around to a few other people for the pages needed for the webcomic, and incredibly I've gotten positive responses. Everyone wants to help! I've never really put my faith in the brony community before, but now that I have it looks like this story can finally begin. Truly, this is an amazing community and I feel ashamed to have not believed in it as much as I should have.

It is times like this that remind me how wonderful a community we have built here, both the brony community in general and the Fo:E community in particular. Never stop being so awesome!

The artwork above and below are chosen from two of the artists working on the webcomic.

Angel’s Castle is below the break. This one required a lot of work, trying some new techniques and half a dozen new mods, not to mention the new toys that the Contraptions DLC gave us to play with! There are still improvements which could be made, and a few areas that haven’t gotten attention, but I believe it has reached the point where I can show it off.

As always, my settlements are not in the same league as some of the utterly amazing works out there… but I think that I outdid myself this time. I really hope you like what I have to share, and I look forward to your comments.

The Castle

West Entrance

”Welcome to the citadel headquarters of the Minutemen!”

Western Enclosure

”Just inside the western entrance is an intimate little outdoors area for visitors to enjoy.”

Visitor’s Center

Minutemen HQ

”This is the meeting, planning and defensive center, the heart of the Minutemen headquarters.”

Armory

”The armorer is still moving in. Please excuse the piles of supplies. We are in the process of storing them in the tunnels below.”

The piles of supplies cover the rubble that I was unable to remove.

”But as you can see, our weapons quartermaster is fully established.”

Grand Courtyard

”Dominated by our cascading water foundtain, the grand courtyard of The Casle provides a beautiful and peaceful place for those seeking respite and rejuvenation in the ongoing struggle to rebuild the Commonwealth.”

Similar to the piles of supplies inside, the entire fountain hides the massive rubble pile along the southern wall.

”The grand courtyard is also home to restroom, shower and refreshment facilities. More extensive facilities for the Minutemen are housed in the tunnels below.”

Medical Clinic

”We offer some of the best medical care in the Commonwealth. We owe it to those who put their lives on the line to aid and rebuild., and we offer our services to all in need.”

The third room of the clinic is a work and supply room which includes the (moved) chemistry station.

Barracks

Kitchen

Laundry

Greenhouse

”Accessable by elevator, the Castle’s greenhouse (supplemented by mirelurk hunting) provides food for the Minutemen and surrounding settlements in the form of fresh, radiation-free produce thanks to our friends at Vault 81.”

Utilities Station

”Likewise accessable by elevator, the Castle boasts an impressive power and water treatment facility.”

South Entrance

”We hope you have enjoyed your tour! Do visit us again!”

The southern entrance encludes a secondary communications hub (above) which operates the settlement beacon, as well as a guard tower and prison. The latter cannot actually be entered, as it covers the rubble on that side of the southern corner.

The Castle

As always, please let me know what you think. And share any screenshots of the settlements you have been working on. Or, for that matter, any screenshots from your Fallout games you would really like to share.

Wow, there are no words other than I need to download the creative mode mods. Because I have worked for a week or so of in-game time and 4 days irl to make my better settlements, but that takes for freaking ever when you build everything yourself and populate it all with junk you literally went out and found.

This castle looks so freaking cool. Waaaaaaay cooler than mine. I can't wait to see what you do with an area as big as Spectacle Isle.

Holy crap, Kkat, the Castle looks amazing! :raritystarry: I mean I have no words to describe it.

And share any screenshots of the settlements you have been working on. Or, for that matter, any screenshots from your Fallout games you would really like to share.

I would love to show what I've made, sadly, I can only make basic buildings with some cool neon lighting. That and the Xbox summer sale has put so many games on my wanted list for sale I've been buying and playing them all. :facehoof: These blogs make me want to transverse the wasteland once again. :moustache:

All i can say is GG!

Oh my God, that is the most incredible thing I've seen in Fallout 4 to date! :raritystarry: I love it so much, especially the Queen Mirelurk claw hanging above the couch in the lounge. Absolutely amazing!

That's truly impressive work. I want some of these settlement mods on xbox :D

Thanks you so much for using my artwork! :rainbowkiss:

hi hi

It's too bad that the game doesn't allow you to remove all of the rubble entirely, but I like the ways you came up with to work around it. When life gives you lemons, make a giant water feature out of them. :yay:

It is kind of interesting to see how some of the objects have a little bit newer appearance and a lot of the items have a more used or scavenged appearance. I wonder if, in your mind or in the game itself, there is perhaps a location or group of people that are crafting things like new furniture. It's a real sign that times are changing for the better when people can start to specialize and make things other than what is strictly necessary for survival on the most basic level.

Also, the pile of teddy bears in the infirmary was an interesting touch. I wonder, are there families that live nearby?

Aaaah, I see you have a nice Sentry Bot guarding the courtyard there. Certainly will cut back on hooligans vandalizing all the excellent work to get this place looking beautiful again.:rainbowlaugh:

I have to admit you found some pretty good mods to make the place look so green and Autumny.:raritystarry:

Freakin WOW! Yeah... maybe by the time I reach lvl eleventy billion, I might be able to do all that :twilightsheepish: (assuming I ain's still running around hunting down random BoS targets :twilightblush:)

Ah the Castle. My home base. Once you get the walls patched (The concrete foundation in the wooden structures category works wonders for this) that place is very easy to defend.

Wow, Kkat, you make it look like the war never happened!

WHat mods are you using? I managed to track down a few of them but there's always something really cool I seam to miss in these.

4087189 There were half a dozen new mods that I added in just to build Castle. Here are the main ones:

Craftable Castle Wall Patches - I got lucky with this mod. The mod brilliantly fixes the huge holes in the walls of the Castle. However, days after I downloaded the mod, the modder kinda threw a hissy fit at Bethesda and made his mods unavailable, except through a huge mod that combines this with a whole bunch of stuff you may not want and makes you do a weird quest to activate. The original mod had a few options, but I only have the file for the option I chose. Fortunately, it is best option. :raritywink: I have put that file up on TinyUpload for you to grab if you don't have it.

Build Your Own Pool - This beautiful mod is how I build that multi-tiered fountain, as well as the other pools of water, such as those in the West Enclosure. Absolutely recommended and easy to use.

OCDecorator - I finally broke down and grabbed this mod.

Functional Displays - All those keen weapons display racks in the Armory are from this mod. For weapons display, it can't be beat. Warning: this mod also includes shelves and displays for clutter, but the modder had to alter nifs for clutter to make them work. I recommend that you do not install any of the meshes under "props" or "setdressing" from this mod, and only use it for weapons and armor displays. The clutter nifs will cause other issues in-game if installed.

Dino's Decorations - From the same person who gave us the amazing Do it Your Shelf mod (which is a must-have for settlement builders!) comes a small mod that adds a handful of new clutter bits.

Crafting Goodies - Endorsed and recommended by Dino, the creator of the above mods, this mod adds a few more really nice bits of clutter. Also a sign that says this:

Well... I'd like to see the BoS or the institute try to break open that fortress. Now my own castle feels inadequate

Noice. My Castle's not as good, but I still have some pride in it, especially the Trophy Room. As far as mods, one I recommend is Lowpoly's Settlement Furniture. It's nice for people like me who want more options, but aren't smart enough to use OCDecorator. :derpytongue2:
Hmm... I just had a thought. The Mariner in Far Harbor mentions that the only thing that can withstand a Queen's acid is Mirelurk shells. So, logically, strapping a bunch of Mirelurk shells on every wall of the Castle would prevent it from ever falling to the Mirelurks again.

4087359

Aaah thank you Kkat!

I've got some installing to do haha.

If I was drinking something it whould have left my mouth the moment I saw the castle. Congratulations I now look upon my own and see how although my design skill is great....it is still serverly limited.

I assume the picture in the back-left corner of the medical clinic is for medical purposes only, right? :derpytongue2:

Your Castle looks awesome and royal and cozy. But you made it a cultural landmark. While it is supposed to be the base of Minutemen operation and weather a massive assault. If attacks in Fallout were anywhere realistic - the greenhouse would be reduced to dust in seconds, and the utility station would be blown with a couple of well placed rocket strikes. And the rest of the battle would be quite awkward. It actually very well might be awkward in the game.

The hay...? Images ain't loadin...

those characters at the top there. what story are they from?

4087359

I have put that file up on TinyUpload for you to grab if you don't have it.

I'm a bit of a novice modder, is there a way to get Nexus Mod Manager to install this mod despite no longer being on the Mod Nexus proper?

4096437
Yes. Push that big green + button. It lets you install the mod from an archive. It will copy it too, so you don't need to keep the archive.

Thats quite impressive. I take it one of those mods allows for the bunkbeds? (I really could use those)

4145568 Much of my furnishings comes from Homemaker. :ajsmug:

4145633

youd think it would already be available...they have bunkbeds in the game, though I havnt tried stacking beds t see if it works
