Mariusioannesp Speculates Wildly: Season 6 Part 2 and More Movie Stuff · 5:50pm Jul 7th, 2016

Greetings my Brony Brethren!

I am here as I said I would be to discuss recent and not so recent developments to the upcoming second half of Season 6 of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic as well as the upcoming film. It seems we won’t have that long to wait for the next half of the season. Our friendly friends at Equestria Daily initially confirmed that MLP will be back on August 6th. However, Equestria Daily just recently reported that the next episodes starting with Episode 14 (technically 13) may be on their way as soon as July 30th. Just recently though, it has been clarified that Episode 15 (technically 14) will be airing on August 6th. Either way, we’ve just one more month of hiatus to go!

In the meantime though, there remains much to be pondered upon. According to Equestria Daily, Zap2It accidentally leaked six titles from the upcoming episodes later this season.

I know Derpy. I know.

If there was any doubt of the legitimacy of this list, it was confirmed by the show’s staff.

A few days ago, we got some summaries for Episodes 14, 15, and now 16.

Oddly enough, this “The Fault In Our Cutie Marks” episode doesn’t appear in the initial leaked list. That’s apparently because it was initially intended to be Episode 9 of this season but was pushed up until later. What Zap2It currently lists as episode 14 should actually be episode 13, 15 as 14, 16 as 15, and so on and so forth.

Now, with all this information we currently have, I’m going to hazard a guess as to what these episodes are about, starting with the ones that actually have summaries, “Stranger Than Fanfiction”, “The Carts Before the Ponies”, and "28 Pranks Later".

Stranger Than Fan Fiction

Rainbow Dash meets a pony at the Daring Do Convention in Manehattan who hates Daring Do as much as she loves it.

When I first saw this title in the leaked episode list, I thought it was quite interesting. It sounded like it could be this season’s “Slice Of Life” and potentially very meta. Equestria Daily had reported some rumored plot details from Fluttershy’s Latin American voice actress Maggie Vera…

Maggie? ¿Qué clase de nombre para una Latina es Maggie? Maggie es un condimento, no el nombre de una dama.

Anyway, according to Señorita Vera, one of the upcoming episodes involves the Mane 6 visiting a convention and there are pony fans talking about their cosplays. On another occasion, Señorita Vera mentions a character named Quibble who will appear in this episode.

Based on this information, I presumed that is episode would kind of service the fandom like “Slice of Life” did last season. I imagined that the Mane 6 would somehow have fans and be attending a convention in their honor where there would be all kinds of fanservice-y shenanigans. If Señorita Vera is referring to this episode, that’s not necessarily the case as the Mane 6 will actually be attending a Daring Do convention. (They could still indirectly reference the fandom and stuff I suppose.) I imagine this Quibble character is the character mentioned in the summary. The name “Quibble” seems to lend credence to that assessment. My question though is why would somepony who hates Daring Do be at a Daring Do convention. Unless this episode is intended as a critique of those Bronies who have a tendency to overly critique the show. That would certainly be interesting.

Since this episode is Daring Do-related, I wonder if this is the episode Daring Do’s voice actress Chiara Zanni was recording for last year. This could mean we could be seeing A.K. Yearling again. Seems like the most appropriate place for her to show up is at a Daring Do convention. Or we could be seeing scenes from the books played out again like we did in Daring Do’s first episode “Read It and Weep” way back in Season 2.

I wonder if G.M. Berrow is going to be involved in this episode. No news on anything like that as of yet.

The Cart Before the Ponies

The Cutie Mark Crusaders get the chance to race in the annual Applewood Derby; their teammates Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash take over the competition.

There’ve been rumors circulating about an episode dealing with racing due to some some of the promotional material. In fact, there was a debunked rumor that this season’s thirteenth episode would be called “Haytona 500”. This appears to be that racing episode. This seems like your typical plot where the Cutie Mark Crusaders get help on their racing carts from their sisters, natural and surrogate, and Rarity, Applejack, and Rainbow Dash end up taking over and pushing them to the side, only interested in outdoing each other. We’ve seen this before, but if done in a new and unexpected way, it could be pretty interesting.

28 Pranks Later

Rainbow Dash’s excessive pranking gets out of hand; the ponies decide to give her a taste of her own medicine.

This title appears to be a reference to the title of the alternative zombie film 28 Days Later and its sequel 28 Weeks Later. The synopsis worries me a little though as it bears a striking resemblance to the plot of “The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well”. Personally, I liked “The Mysterious Mare-Do-Well” because it reminded me of Darkwing Duck, but many in the fandom consider it one of the series’ worst episode. I rather not see a repeat of that.

The Times Are a Changeling

This is a very interesting title. For one, it’s a reference to the Bob Dylan song “The Times They Are A-changin’”. Well, sort of. Either way, the important part is it’s got Changeling in the title. There is some speculation we may be seeing Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings again later this season given what looked to be a Changeling flying in the background at the very end of “The Crystalling”. But why would a one-off episode deal with Changelings rather than the finale? Could this episode perhaps help build up to a return of the Changelings and Queen Chrysalis later in the season like in the finale? Maybe it’ll explain Kevin the Changeling, that Changeling who was in attendance at Cranky and Matilda’s wedding in “Slice of Life” last season.

Dungeons And Discords

Given that this one has Discord in the title, I imagine it’s one of the two episodes John De Lancie said he would be recording for this season. The title is a reference to the popular roleplaying game Dungeons and Dragons which happens to be owned by Hasbro. Beyond that, I have no idea what this could be about. It could involve Discord and send up roleplaying games or could just be about Discord in a dungeon. We’ll just have to wait and see.

Buck Ball Season

This one sounds like it’s referring to the phrase “baseball season”. Perhaps it’ll introduce us to the pony version of baseball. Beyond that, I have no idea. I’m not much of a sportsman so I know very little about baseball, except that games tends to be excruciatingly long.

The Fault In Our Cutie Marks

This title is referring to the novel and film The Fault in Our Stars. Beyond that, all we know about this one is that Ed Valentine is very likely the auteur of this episode. Ed Valentine hasn’t written for MLP in quite a while. The last episodes he wrote were “Flight to the Finish” and “Three’s A Crowd” way back in Season 4. “Flight to the Finish” was an episode I never cared for despite the rest of the fandom really eating it up. “Three’s A Crowd” though I really enjoyed. Given that Cutie Marks is in the title and Mr. Valentine has previously written a CMC episode, I’m going to hazard the guess that this will also be a CMC episode. I will also go further and suggest that this may be the episode where we see the return of Babs Seed. She’s supposed to return this season. That trading card I keep bringing up mentioned her questioning her cutie mark. That would work perfectly with the kind of CMC episodes they’re doing now. It could be in Manehattan (which would make this possibly the fourth episode set there in just this season), or Babs could be visiting Ponyville again. We just have to wait until August to find out.

And now, on to some MLP movie news!

First off, My Little Pony: The Movie now has an official logo!

This seems to confirm that the movie is going to be called simply My Little Pony: The Movie, just like the very first My Little Pony movie. How interesting.

There’s also some new casting news! Equestria Daily recently revealed that Liev Schreiber and Taye Diggs have been cast in My Little Pony: The Movie. Taye Diggs is most well known for starring in the Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice and in the film How Stella Got Her Groove Back. Animation-wise, he starred as Black Panther in an episode of The Super Hero Squad Show, the film Scooby Doo! Music of the Vampire, and an episode of 101 Dalmatians: The Series. (Y’all remember 101 Dalmatians: The Series? They used to give it a lot on the Disney Channel when I was a kid. One of the “Dalmatians” was a chicken with spots.) Liev Schreiber on the other hand has done quite a bit, such as starring as Sabretooth in the X-Men movies and as the titular character of the Showtime series Ray Donovan. (Ray Donovan. That’s another show I’ve never seen because I’m not the kind of person who watches Showtime.) Animation-wise, Liev Schreiber hasn’t done much.

Details as to either of their roles have not been forthcoming. However, Liev Schreiber did drop a few choice details about his role on Jimmy Kimmel Live. There, he revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that he’s in the My Little Pony movie because he wanted to be in something more child-friendly that his children could enjoy yet, he ended up playing a monster that eviscerates all the ponies.

Now, this makes it clear that Schreiber will be playing a monstrous villain in the movie. I doubt though he will actually eviscerate any ponies because that would probably be too much, even given the leeway children’s movies tend to get in this regard. Whether he’s the main villain or a monster that serves the main villain is yet to be made clear. If he’s something like a dragon, he could be a monster and the main villain. Perhaps, he is Grogar, and my previous speculations that the three actresses cast in the film are Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle are completely wrong. Perhaps he’s a monster serving, Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle since they can’t use the Smooze in that capacity. What if he’s actually some kind of sapient version of their cyclopean spider monster Ahgg?! He could definitely eviscerate ponies. Either way, whatever it may be, I look forward to seeing what Liev Schreiber brings to this role.

The final thing for today is that there appears to be some evidence that Guardians of Harmony is connected with the My Little Pony film.

In this photo provided to Equestria Daily, we have a package from a recent Toy Fair that features a Guardians of Harmony Rainbow Dash toy with the My Little Pony: The Movie logo on it. Given what we’ve seen of Guardians of Harmony, if it indeed depicts elements of the film, then we have quite an epic movie in store. Given that the line includes Chrysalis, Changeling, and Discord toys, we might be seeing them in the movie as well. It’s also a possibility that Guardians of Harmony will be established in the back end of Season 6 and connect to the movie coming out next Fall. Only time will tell at this point.

What do y’all think of my speculations concerning the second half of Season 6 and My Little Pony: The Movie? Do you think they have merit or are they merely the delusions of an addled fanboy?

God bless you all. God bless America. And God bless Equestria.

About 28 weeks later, it uses the idiot-ball. I do not recommend it. Try The Thing:

The protagonists are intelligent, well-educated, and healthy and outclassed by a superintelligent shapeshifting alien. They do not do anything stupid, but still do not have a chance against this superior entity.

¡Do not trust dogs!

It is too bad that non at the American Base could speak Norwegian. It would have saved their lives. Instead, the Americans are as doomed as the Norwegians before them.

4112821 I admit, it never occurred to me to look so deeply, but it would be something if Grogar shows up on an FIM finale that airs on the anniversary of Return of Tambelon. That's something to keep in mind.

I'll have to look for this Russian stuff too. I think I saw in some comments on Equestria Daily that they supposedly mentioned that the movie would include Hippogriffs.
