I finally did it! Week after week I was fighting to finish the Wonderbolt episode, ever since it was aired, but today I completed the task of watching it completely!
Some might wonder how this is an achievement, but for me it is! I mean, the scene with the trash can, the Wonderbolts being jerks and Rainbow being a jerk back, Rainbow trying to imitate her friends and that last crash scene. They all hindered my progress in watching the episode. Especially the imitating her friends part. This had a simple reason: embarrasment.
Let me elaborate, all these scenes there more or less embarrassing and I don't really know how much people out there feel the same way about this scenes like me, but watching them hurt me in a strange emotional way. I find such scenes unbearable to watch the more embarrassing they are. My heart just reaches out to the character and I have a hard time watching it. The same happened in the Equestrian Games episode where Spike was singing the Cloudsdale Hymn completely wrong. Albeit not that badly, since I managed to pull through in the end without trying it for weeks.
I was wondering how others felt about that particular episode. In my opinion it was too much embarrassment. I could only feel sorry the entire time for Rainbow, while at the same time cursing her for acting like a jerk back and worsening her situation. The ending wasn't as much of a relief in my opinion. Sure it helped that everything went well in a way, but after everything that happened I blame the Wonderbolts too for not informing Rainbow about their nicknaming. All this embarrassment, or at least most of it, could have been easily avoided if they had just explained to her that embarrassing nicknames were a thing there. Without that explanation the Wonderbolts just came off to me like they were some bullies. And I honestly expected more from the elite flyers in that regard.
I'm at least feeling better now after I finished my rant now. Feel free to share your thoughts on the episode. I'm quite curious what others thought about it!
