State of the Writer, April 2024!

    It's another boring one! I ain't wrote nothin'! :B

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

Another post about video games and Youtube and stuff

If I'm going to waste time watching shit on Youtube, the least I can do is tell people about it. :P

Ceave is a crazy Austrian with a love of video games and a head for philosophizing about them. Plus he really, really hates coins, no matter how tasty they may look.

Do you like video games? How about philosophy?

I like one of those things for sure, but no one combines the two better than a Youtuber named InfernalRamblings, a former professional game developer who now creates hour and a half long video essays about the meanings of video games and how they relate to the world today. Here's a few highlights, since this is now basically my only

A Kitchen Nightmare [episode spoilers!] · 6:21pm Jun 11th, 2016

Flutter Brutter is just depressing. The less said about it, the better. This week, things look up thanks to the correct buttload of references.

Saffron Masala is my new waifu. I saw her first, none of you can have her. >:B

In all seriousness, when she showed up is when this episode went from drab to fab. The first scene was incredibly dull, uninspiring even, giving us a "Yes, Starlight Glimmer is still in this show" before rebooting the map. The next sequence, despite the skewering of high-class restaurant food and Pinkie's amusing new ocular osmosis eating technique, promised yet another boring episode about Rarity and Pinkie doing dumb shit in high society.

And then they walked into an Indian restaurant, and nothing hurt anymore.

From that point, this was tops. I kept drawing parallels to previous episodes -- Suited for Success, Games Ponies Play -- but it didn't play out like I was expecting. Saffron was hot great, and her dad was a hoot. (Was that Peter New using his Littlest Pet Shop voice?) Pinkie and Rarity made things worse in a very natural, non-cringey way. The fucking Bollywood song okay, it definitely could have been more Bollywood, and the lyrics aren't great, but I dug it.

And holy shit, can anyone start unravelling the kettle of references that final scene was? I mean, Gordon Ramsay and I fucking freaked (someone more familiar with the comics tell me: is his design different? I'm pretty sure the cutie mark is...) and I think that cookie-flanked unicorn was Tara Strong's OC, but I can't even begin to come up with who the others might have been.

One thing I'll say was a letdown was Zesty Gourmand, name aside. Making her an out-and-out villain instead of giving her the Harshwhinny treatment was a tad disappointing, but only a tad. (Also, she looked like she was made out of animated paper cutouts, and it freaked me out any time she did anything. D:)

But yeah, overall? Good episode, really solid. Surprise that a return to season five form didn't come off worse for retreading old ground, but this is now fuel for the idea that they should just keep doing what they were doing.

Now if only some of those cringey-as-fuck upcoming episode titles turn into good episodes, too...

She really wasn't really a villain villain, she was just... kind of there.

Really fun episode. It had that first-season feel of fun slice-of-life nonsense, with two characters playing off each other in an entertaining way.

Unlike AJ's Day Off which could have substituted any three characters for the exact same plot, yes I am still bitter.

y u no put songs in order of appearance

Zesty and Rares were the only complaints I had.

Wasn't there a song Starlight Glimmer sings in Hearth's Warming Tail or is that just an extension to the beginning song?

Saffron Masala is my new waifu.

I knew it! I took one look at her and thought, "Oh, here we go again."

I was just watching Spice Up Your Life with Regidar, and as soon as we saw Saffron we both looked at each other and shook our heads.

Bronies are so predictable :raritywink:

Well, "villain" as in "your opinions are wrong, and you have no redeeming qualities, good day". :B

Also hey, you need to read my thing so I can post it. D:

They're ranked by how I liked them. D: Also shit, I forgot to put this one in.

Say Goodbye to the Holiday.

That's Lee Tockar as the voice of Cumin, better known as freakin' Snips.

Also, Saffron Masala is new waifu.

You guys can't have Saffron Masala. She is mine because her dad is just like this one uncle I have.

4016021 No I mean at the end of the epiosde not the song sung by "Snowfrost"

But that's creepy! D: You can't waifu your cartoon cousin!

4016340
Yeah, she takes up the lead in the reprise of Hearth's Warming Eve Is Here Once Again at the end.

I loved the episode, was a refreshing break from some of the subpar episodes that have come out lately.

Just really disappointed in who ever chose to cast Lee Tockar and Diana Kaarina. I am guessing there is a complete lack of Indian descent VAs in Canada.

(And yeah yeah, I know, I should probably head back to tumblr, right?)

Saffron was voiced by Aria Blaze? :O Whoa butt!

Yeah, it was the first thing I checked when my wife and I finished the episode. Both names seemed familiar, so I looked them up. Both particularly white for some characters supposed to be indian inspired.

One thing I'll say was a letdown was Zesty Gourmand, name aside.

Thing there is, the name doesn't even fit her. Gourmand, sure, but she's basically allergic to zesty, and you could tell that just from her color palette, so I don't even really buy some kind of parents getting it wrong idea.

You seem to be confused. Saffron was the name of the forgettable chef; Coriandor was the top tier husbando bait who wagged his squeezable ass for the camera, showed off his chest fluff, and had the best lines. Plus the mustache.

Main things that annoyed me was Vogel does not know how to write Rarity at all (she's the last one to be advocating mindless conformity, and then she's only important because she's popular; I've read rapefics that handeled Rarity's character in a better and less idiotic and cliched way) and that I had to go back and edit "Twilight Sparkle is Dead at a Fashionable Occasion" to have Zesty being repulsed by the idea of ponies putting food in their mouths before eating it.

This is the kind of canon update that's worth doing.

Also, Coriander was p. great too, if only because cumin is my favorite. :B

I'll pass on Saffron, I'm afraid. More waifu for you.

I keep looking at her and seeing transgender Cheese Sandwich.
