My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 6 Episode 11: "Flutter Brutter" (SPOILERS) · 4:00pm Jun 4th, 2016

This. This is the one we've been waiting for since 2014, when the production staff let slip the first Twitter leak about an episode introducing Fluttershy's brother.

HEADS UP: Anyone who refers to Zephyr Breeze as "Zeph" is going to be summarily executed. Zef is...a little pissed at the nickname. :ajbemused: (I don't blame him. Yikes.)

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash are visiting Fluttershy's parents. Fluttershy's dad just retired and is looking forward to spending time at home, relaxing with his hobbies. Fluttershy's mother is...nondescript.

Fluttershy's brother, Zephyr Breeze, is...well...

Gah. Just...gah.

Apparently, he's one of those shiftless hipster types that his own family doesn't understand, they just...kind of endure him. Fluttershy doesn't seem to like him much, Rainbow Dash obviously thinks he's a joke.

Oh, and he's just moved back in with their parents.

Apparently, Breeze perpetually fails at everything he does, to the point where just his showing up is enough to send Fluttershy into Flutterbitch mode.

Breeze thinks everypony loves him, not realizing he's...obnoxious. And apparently, he's left the nest and come back to the nest...several times, because Fluttershy has to remind her parents of what happened the last time he moved back in.

Oh, and Breeze thinks Rainbow is sweet on him. He also thinks his parents will just bend over backwards to do everything for him.

O_o @ background ponies freaking out at Fluttershy being "peeved".

Fluttershy talks to her friends a bit, then heads back home to tell Breeze to leave, and finds him screwing up his parents' storage shed and garden without a thought to what they want. Fluttershy convinces her parents to ask Breeze to leave.

Aaaaand Breeze decides to move in with Fluttershy. You know, the one who kicked him out of their parents' house.

God, I want to punch him.

Every time Breeze hits on Rainbow, her faces are just...wow.

Anyway, Fluttershy hates the idea of her brother invading her space, but she allows him to stay on the condition he gets a job.

I haven't seen Fluttershy this pissed in ages. :twilightoops:

Fluttershy decides to get Breeze a job at Carousel Boutique. Fluttershy, what did Rarity ever do to you? ;_;

Breeze has one simple thing to do: dye cloth. He can't even do THAT right, because he's so lazy he decides to have a bunch of animals run wild with the cloth and dye.

Breeze's next job is at the palace as a window washer. He tricks Spike into doing all the work for him.

After that, Fluttershy has Rainbow Dash take Breeze to Wonderbolt HQ. Whatever his job there was, he didn't do it, and returns home frazzled and flustered. When Fluttershy realizes her brother simply refuses to work at all, she kicks him out.

While Fluttershy and Rainbow are cleaning up the cottage, a bird shows up to alert Fluttershy of a problem in the forest. Breeze...can't even start a campfire on his own.

Breeze admits that his biggest problem is a crippling fear of failure. He never applies himself to anything because he's afraid of trying to do something and failing. Fluttershy decides to give him a second chance--if he'll do whatever she says and apply himself without quitting.

The musical number in this episode feels...kind of out of place.

So anyway, Breeze goes back to school and graduates. But he's still an obnoxious hipster. And still wants to live with his parents.

This...may be the most adult episode this show has ever attempted. :rainbowderp: No, not "may be". IS. Holy shit, this could be the episode that actually turns this season around.

I am more surprised that Fluttershy is a big sister.

3997921 Well, she's around 26 or so at this point, so it's not THAT surprising. Although her dad is older than I expected.

I get the feeling that Ze... *looks at above warning* Uh... Rainbow-Breeze... fics are inevitable.

Seeing him trying to be on his own in the forest was hard to watch. I'm glad things kinda worked out a bit in the end.

I see him as a mix of Kuzco + Blue Blood and a pinch of Johnny Bravo, but it's not good.

3997931 I get the feeling anyone who tries to write one will be stoned. Unless it's a "Get away from me, Zephyr Breeze!" story.

It's official. There is now a pony I hate more then Trixie.
And his name is John Cena Zephyr Breeze

I love that Fluttershy was assertive this episode. Character growth yay!

Episode was okay with some fun animation and good characterization.

Zephyr Breeze is one of the most worthless characters they've introduced.

This is honestly the best Fluttershy episode of the series.
It's not as good as Newbie Dash, but they are close.

It cemented several things:
1. Dave Rapp as one of the best new writers on the show.
2. This season being the best one so far. At this point, it has: The best premiere, the second best RD episode, the best Fluttershy episode, the best AJ episode, the second best Pinkie episode, the best Manehatten episode, the best Rarity episode, and the best Twilight episode.

The only thing that annoyed me about the episode is the scene with Rarity, since it honestly felt kind of forced.
But at least it was short.

3997926 Not too bad, my 15 year old cousin's father is 74 years old.

3997959 Where are all the broken pots then?

I loved it how Fluttershy took a step up to assert herself to her brother.:yay: I can't believe Zephyr was so lazy he couldn't even do the simplest of things.:facehoof: It's nice to see Flutter's parents. Zephyr, you have no shot with RD.

I guess it's a good thing that Zephyr Breeze doesn't exist in Persona EG. Why? Because after Fluttershy became Eris, it'd probably just be a matter of time before she beat the crap out of him.

I find Zephyr's incompetence ridiculous. Honestly. Though I must give it to him for being somewhat smart (aleck) for being able to trick Spike. But his most impressive feat was even being able to come up with the idea of letting animals do the dye. That's some serious creativity. Which is important, but he just wastes it away. Nevertheless, I didn't think the episode was too bad. Fluttershy is definitely funny as a big sister; just reminds us how people can behave quite differently toward siblings.

3997926 26?! I always thought she's only on her early 20s....

3997959 I tend to miss a lot of those little background things the first time I watch an episode. Because I'm looking away to blog. :P
3997978 Well, everyone's entitled to their opinion, I guess.

3997959 A nice shout out to Zelda fans, wouldn't you say?

3998000 Pretty sure most of the cast was in their very late teens/early 20s at the beginning of the series, and several years have passed (AT LEAST FOUR) since "Friendship is Magic - Part 1". And we know Fluttershy is a year older than Pinkie Pie. So odds are she's between 25 and 26.

3997941
Yes, I initially prefixed that with another word, to describe the non-consensuality of the situation, but I decided against it

3998029 I've given up trying to figure out a concrete timeline for the show, or how long it's been.
But I think the mane 6 are closer to their 20s than their 30s. And that's accounting for all the time that may have passed (which I think is closer to 2 years than 4).

3998058 Don't get me started on the whole "how much time has passed" thing today. I'm not in the mood for it.

Greeeeeeat. He's the absolutely bloody useless asshole from Zits. No wonder Fluttershy has issues....everyone in sight is coddling the big frakking lump of nothing.

3997953 Can we just call him the Scrappy instead?

Though I like Scrappy Doo more than Zephyr Breeze. Kinda reminds me of King Joffrey from GoT.

What Zephyr Breeze did with Spike was take a page straight out of "Tom Swayer".

3997988 Applejack's Barn.

I really liked this episode, and I really liked Fluttershy in it! Best episode of the season for me so far! ALSO, HOOVES OFF THE RAINBOW DASH!!! :flutterrage:

Did someone notice this picture at the wall?
Why does she even have something like this?
(And how long till artists begin to create artworks inspired by this?)

I haven't seen Fluttershy this pissed in ages. :twilightoops:

I don't think we've seen this side of Flutters.....ever. Like outbursts of anger yeah, but....nothing like this.

3998346 Dude is proud of his sister's modeling career, held onto one of her shots I assume.

I actually liked Zephyr as a character. I've always enjoyed the pricks.
i would like to know what sort of 'execution' you have in mind... without a demonstration, please?

3998965 Ever see Machete? Something like that.

3999002 please forgive my ignorance, but no, I have not.

3999017 Well, from the title alone, you can probably make the correct inferences.

3999079 Probably horrific and painful?

3999251 If you like over-the-top bloody, cheesy, ridiculous exploitation movies with lots of gore and stuff, it really is. It's very much a grindhouse movie. My favorite scene involves Machete ripping open a guy's stomach with a surgical saw, pulling out his intestines, and using them as a rope to crash out the window and rappel to the next floor.

3999256 That sounds awesome, though in matters of over the top bloody, horrific deaths, my heart goes out to Danganronpa

3997995
Apparently, Fluttershy thinks her little brother is actually smart, creative, and talented.

Maybe that's why she's so pissed off—she knows he could do all kinds of things, if only he actually tried. What she didn't know is how terrified he is of failure, especially when his big sister is one of the most accomplished ponies in generations.

I wish they'd let that moment play out a bit more.

3997953 I think that was the point of the character.

3998104

Kinda reminds me of King Joffrey from GoT.

No! That is an insult to... one of them. Not sure which one though... Who's worse...? Jeoffrey or Zephyr Breeze...?

This was hands down Fluttershy's best episode in my opinion. She was still Fluttershy without being a doormat. Honestly, she kind of put me in the mind of Persona EG's Fluttershy a bit, now that I'm thinking about it.

I adored this episode. Yeah, Zephyr Breeze was a bit of a :yay:hole, but he was funny. Also, Fluttershy, just, Fluttershy, the sheer sarcasm and snark, I think she might have outsnarked Twilight at her snarkiest. And you know what? It was glorious.
