Substitute - Some notes and figures · 3:30am May 23rd, 2016

Howdy everyone!

So, it's been a couple weeks since the story dropped, and I've got this weird twisted feeling in my stomach but for trivial reasons. During Feedback's development I was able to get chapters out on a (mostly) weekly basis, but that hasn't happened here. I'm itching to share it with all of you, but it is still being edited (editing of this caliber does take time, after all!). In the meantime, I think I'll write down some notes here that might be of interest to some of you as well as something that should definitely tide you all over until chapter two comes out.

I've somewhat realized that I'm writing at about the pace of editing. Granted, I'm a few chapters ahead of editing, but a buffer is always nice. I'm somewhat of a slow writer. Or, at least, I consider myself that way. In my book, 400 words is a good day, which I'm able to do pretty consistently. By the same token, 5000 words in two weeks was also pretty good. These past four chapters of Substitute have been around 9000 words a piece, which is astounding, all of which I've written since the early days of January. Perhaps I've fallen a little behind, but perhaps that is because I am doing other things related to the story, such as self-editing. Or maybe I've taken a day off here and there. It's hard to say.

Regardless, I am nearing the 50k word mark, and I'm only on chapter six of thirteen. Of course, I also knew there would be a bit more going on in this story but yeah, that's a stunning number.

Moreso what prompted this blog were a couple of nice developments within the past 36 hours.
- Concerning chapter six, I wrote a scene last night which I think I really knocked out of the park. Before last night, I had only gotten up to the transition, and I managed to write the scene in the span of a couple hours. And it legit brought tears to my eyes. I would dare say that it is some of the best material that I have ever written.
- I resolved a huge barrier that I foresaw from day one of drafting. It is something that I have been worried about since the first day of drafting, in no small part that if I handled it wrong, the story would completely shatter. I did have some thoughts on what would happen with that specific angle but I thought they were pretty bad, but in the past day I've widened my gaze and peered into the infinitely many worlds and have found a solution that is super cool yet still plays into where I want to take the story, even more so than anything that I had before. Before that, I examined infinities in several directions, and not just the one you're all familiar with. I think you will all like what's to come.

Since it could be a while before chapter two drops, I also went ahead and I dug up an old story of mine from 2012. It was a Sherlock-Holmes-esque story (with a Holmes-like character and a Holmes-like storyline). I never published it anywhere but it was complete. I've given it some re-writes and some polish and I'm very happy with how it's looking. I have someone giving it a look over real quick before I release it into the wild, but I think ya'll might get something out of it. It'll probably drop in the next few days, so be on the lookout for it!

That's all for now. The writing continues and I quite expect that I might even finish chapter six within the next couple of days. From there, I'll likely move straight on into seven. The train is rolling, folks! Both here and in-universe.

I'm not touching these spoiler tags. I'm too scared of them.

You should be. The potential this fic has is pure unf.

And it legit brought tears to my eyes. I would dare say that it is some of the best material that I have ever written.

You're making this hard to go into with low expectations. How else am I supposed to be pleasantly surprised? :trollestia:

Good editing takes time. We'll be here when it's ready.
