My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic - Season 6 Episode 9: "Saddle Row & Rec" (SPOILERS) · 4:01pm May 21st, 2016

Or is it "The Saddle Row Review"? Confusing titles are confusing.

Are you guys excited for another Manehattan episode? That's also another Rarity episode?

The episode opens with Rarity's friends charging to the Boutique to try to ward off a disaster. Evidently, the grand opening of her Manehattan boutique...didn't go so well, and the rest of the Mane Six are sort of to blame, and the press got wind of it, and there's a really, really BAD article about it in the paper.

When they arrive, Rarity is delighted to see them, having not read the article yet and wanting to read it together with her friends, who realize they're all in big trouble once Rarity sees the article.

Poor Rarity is so excited for this review. Too bad it's J. Pony Jameson doing the interviews...

AJ has an odd concept of "fashionable".

Rarity's shop is opening...a little too soon, because the place is an unfinished disaster. Her landlord has a horrible Russian accent and is a pushy bastard who forces Rarity to hire his obnoxious daughter by threatening to raise her rent if she doesn't.

Further disasters: Rarity's stockroom is infested with raccoons. Fluttershy tells the reporter their entire life story.

Next disaster: there's a noisy nightclub upstairs from the new boutique.

Twilight's Sweep! Sweep! Sweep! dance remix is hilarious.

Next disaster: The obnoxious daughter replaces the shop's jingle bell with an obnoxious farting horn.

Next disaster: The merchandise arrives in complete disarray.

Hi, Coco! Rarity absolutely needs your help! But she can't work because she has hay fever. Poor Coco.

So basically at this point, between the dance club and the bratty "helper" and no Coco and the farting door horn and the raccoons, Rarity is screwed.

Nice callback to "Too Many Pinkie Pies". :rainbowlaugh:

Anyway, with Rarity freaking out, her friends all offer to help Rarity get her opening back on track so it can be perfect.

By the way, the interview segments are HILARIOUS. Especially Rainbow's and Pinkie's.

:rainbowlaugh: Angel Rarity and Devil Rarity on Pinkie's shoulders are hilarious, especially the way they utterly break the trope.

Pinkie tries to stop the party upstairs with lame music. Rainbow tries to hire ponies off the street when she knows nothing about fabric.

Speaking of fabric, Obnoxious Daughter wants to change all the clothes from fabric to...spoons.

The raccoons don't take well to being evicted. Obnoxious Daughter sics her daddy on AJ for nixing her Spoon Clothes idea. The party upstairs gets out of control again. And with things going haywire all over the place, Twilight panics and locks Rarity in the window display.

Basically, this episode's major conflict is the reverse of the conflict in "Castle Sweet Castle", where everyone trying to do things the way they think Rarity would want to do them is the problem, and the solution is for the girls to do things the way they would normally do them.

Once the girls get it in gear, they pull the boutique together just in time for the grand opening, and everything looks great! With three sales associates working the floor, and Pinkie's collaboration with DJ PON-3 providing atmosphere...and some bizarreness courtesy of raccoons and spoon clothes...the opening of Rarity 4U manages to be a success instead of a nightmare.

The only thing that's not a success? Rarity's friends never actually told her about the multitude of disasters on the opening night, which is why they didn't want her to read the article. But she forgives them for not telling her, since they came through for her when it counted.

This is honestly the first episode of season six I have FULLY enjoyed. The first 10/10 this season gets from me. Loved it!

Let the Sweep remixes begin!

Looks like one of the Pinkie clones escaped banishment.

With J. Pony Jameson, I was worried for a bit.

3961144 He only writes smear articles about Spider-Mare.

3961146
Or is it Spider-colt?

3961130 There's already one video up on Youtube. The quality's awful, but it's there.

No Spoilers!:raritystarry: Could that Jameson pony be Rarity's biggest critic? :trollestia:It definitely was funny with that one rogue Pinkie clone. The interviews definitely were hilarious.:rainbowlaugh: Also, AJ and Rainbow's commentary on Twilight's Sweep! Sweep! dance was funny.:ajsmug::rainbowlaugh:

Obnoxious Daughter needs to patent those spoon gloves if they don't already exist.

My first impression was "These guys are really bad at anticipating what Rarity would actually want." Then it hit me that the point of it is remembering what they think she'd want isn't actually what she'd want and we had something almost like success. Anyway, a bad review is simply another challenge for her to overcome.

Huh. Two review blogs thus far, and they're completely different. This is going to be interesting...

Personally, I thought there was a lot to like. Not deep, but quite fun.

A good episode, but they really needed to include Starlight Glimmer here. They can't just keep forgetting about her when she's not the focus, the only way they're ever going to sell us on her being reformed and the seventh ranger is if we get to see her even when she's not the focus.

I actually have more or less the opposite opinion.
I find it to be one of the season's weaker episodes, though it was still very entertaining.

It's also one of the better Manehatten episodes, though that's not really saying much.
So far, the Manehatten episodes have been evenly split between kind of lackluster (Rarity takes Manehatten and Made in Manehatten) and entertaining (Gift of the Maud Pie and this one).
So now I have a theory that if an episode in Manehatten actually has the name in the title, it's likely to be one of the show's weaker episodes. If the name isn't in the title, then the episode might not end up being one of the series' best, but it will definitely be entertaining at the very least.

The landlord has some balls threatening somepony just next a princess of Equestria.

As a Littlest Pet Shop expert, how similar is Saddle Row?

3961146 Spider-colt is a menace, and J Pony Jameson is goint to unmask that reckless vigilante once and for all!

3961355 Not very, really. Although I don't know what Littlest Pet Street is going to look like when it's finally finished. They're certainly hyping it up...

3961367 Fair enough. Let us know if Littlest Pet Street gets a trio of racoons moving in.

I feel sorry for that Jameson pony, because he's stuck with Pinkie's bill, and the angel and devil Rarities were funny for going on the opposite of the whole trend.

And to top all of the insanity of this episode, the landlord pony with the really bad accent was a cop with a grenade jockstrap in a previous live.

:applejackconfused:

I'm not joking. The voice actor is Alan Marriot and yes, he voiced THAT character in Mad Bull 34.

This is honestly the first episode of season six I have FULLY enjoyed. The first 10/10 this season gets from me. Loved it!

Yeah, because a lot of episodes thus far have been kinda OKish, with a few good moments, barring Gauntlet of Fire, this one was pretty good, Rarity's now got 3 stores.
