Visiden Whines It: Newbie Dash · 12:45am May 8th, 2016
We get some SoarinDash in this episode. I'm a big fan of SoarinDash due to me being a big fan of any heterosexual Rainbow Dash pairing. Except the one with her dad...that's just gross. Hell, if I had to pick between RD straight/Rest of Mane 6 gay and RD gay/rest of Mane 6 straight, I'd pick the former. There's just something about the fandom making her gay because of her mane that rubs me the wrong way.
I suppose that RD being a reservist then actually performing with the Wonderbolts is a sign that she's prospering like Rarity is. That's nice.
I like the perspective in regards to RD's flying skills. The fandom plays up how RD is the greatest flier evah because of the Sonic Rainboom, but the episode makes it appear like she's the greatest basketball player in her highschool being drafted into the NBA. Hope she's not the Kwame Brown of the wonderbolts.
I like the conclusion bit where the wonderbolts didn't kowtow to RD's hurt feewings, but pointed out that it's part of group dynamics.
This episode tries to make me sympathetic towards Dash because the Wonderbolts are calling her names. But if someone in my workplace was being an unsuffferable bitch who acts like a know-it-all, can't follow basic rules, and smugly suggests that she can "improve" how things are being done, I'd call her names too.
That whole imitating the rest of the Mane 6 bit...I've never had a high opinion of RD's intelligence, but the level of stupidity is beyond what I imagined.
The imitation bit in the middle made me cringe something fierce, but overall, I'd say that I liked this episode a lot. In fact, I probably like it more than any other episode of the season so far.
Frankly, the fandom makes her gay less because of her mane and more because they self-insert as Rainbow.

Honestly at this point is has a lot of "tradition". As far as where that comes from I think it had to do with how all the main characters are all female and at first we really only had one male character worth mentioning for a while (Mac who tended to get paired more with Fluttershy than anybody else sadly).
I take this view as ALL the main characters tended to be paired with each other for a long time. Popular characters tend to be paired with popular characters.
I do think you are right that form authors she is the closest to them and I also think that is why TwiDash is very popular on this site but not quite as popular in other mediums and places.
This is why I write her bisexual. It fits her personality far more than she treats sex as awesome/playful/orgasm chasing/who cares/they have a nice ass.

Right, because the athletic tomboy who shuns girly things and likes to be cool is clearly a lesbian. Because as we all know, there's more than one way to be a girl, but only one way to be a lesbian, amirite?
I'm sorry for being hyperbolic, but my sister fell prey to this line of thinking. She was always a tomboy, she never liked traditional girly things, she wore jeans instead of dresses, she played softball in high school and college, and was in general more Rainbow Dash than Rainbow Dash. And those rumors caused her great pain, and pressured her into making decisions she regrets to this day, nearly 15 years later.
Look, if you want to ship a popular character with another popular character, more power to you. Hell, some of my preferred ships are lesbian (LunaShy and CheerLight OTPs). But when people say it;'s because of the way Dash acts more than just "I like these two characters together" it gets my dander up. That might not be what you were saying, but I interpreted it that way. If I was wrong, and I went on a tirade for no reason, I humbly apologize.
