A shadow leapt from the eaves of a passing taphouse to his shoulder. “Amir,” the cat purred in his ear, sinking its claws into the folds of his cloak. “That didn’t take you long. One wonders what on the other side of Mechanist is so simple and yet, interesting enough for Her.”
Amir only twitched in surprise. Baenboein liked cats and wasn’t averse to using them to bother travelers and citizens alike, so this wasn’t the first time he had been accosted this way. But he still wasn’t used to it. “Her business is Hers, you know that, Sir Baenboein.” He was careful to keep his voice polite, though really Baenboein wasn’t being too much of a nuisance.
“Not even a hint?” The cat wheedled, kneading its claws against his shoulder. “You are using my city to get there, you know.”
“Lots of people use your city for lots of things.” He reached up to rub the cat behind the ears. “And if they all had to account to you for their business, you wouldn’t have nearly so many.”
“Have it your way,” the cat said, batting at his fingers in mock irritation, then chuckled. “Enjoy your stay in Hasenhearth.” It leapt off his shoulders and stalked back into the shadows with an insouciance that was pure feline.
Interesting!
Very interesting!
Very, very interesting!
The cat is actually nobility that owns a city? It must be completely insufferable, they can be bad enough when they just think they run things.
I say this as someone who likes cats.

My impression is that the cat is possessed by the city's god.

You are correct, sir! Although Baenboein isn't just the god of that city - he is the God Of Cities. Hasenhearth just happens to be his favorite playground.
