Top 5 Creepiest Kirby Final Bosses · 6:31pm May 5th, 2016

Sleep well tonight...

Hey, how's it going everyone? My name is SuperKamek and welcome back to another countdown! I know I said I'd get a Metacritic Monday out yesterday, but I had two surprise tests that day and basically no time to study, let alone work on the episode. I've decided to postpone the episode until sometime later this week. Disappointing, yes, but I do at least promise to get it out this week.

So instead of dreaming about the future, why don't I give you all a few nightmares to chew on first?

It's a known fact most Kirby final bosses are creepy as all hell. Whether it's their design, their personalities or just the very concept of what they're trying to be, it's a wonder how Kirby's managed to stay rated E for so long. So I'm here to countdown my top five of them!

There are some rules in place, however. First off, I'm making this a top 5 in order to challenge myself and try and pinpoint the truly creepy final bosses. Also, no "fake" final bosses like Miracle Matter or Landia. While they could arguably be considered creepy, they're not the true final bosses of the game, so they're not on this list. However, reincarnated final bosses are very much allowed, like Soul forms or just plain returns of bosses in other games. I'll be rating the boss on how creepy they are to me, not by their actual battle. I will however explain a bit about the battles in which they're featured in. Also, the final boss of Planet Robobot will NOT be on this list. While I actually think it's the creepiest final boss Kirby has ever gone up against, I don't want to spoil anything.

With that having been said, this goes without saying when I say there will be MASSIVE SPOILERS to anyone who hasn't played these games yet. Fair warning, but I'm sure we can bypass it for now.

Let's go!

Number 5:
Queen Sectonia

Themes:

Have you ever given into greed before?

Don't lie; I know you have. It's perfectly normal human nature to lust after something you desperately want. We've all done something greedy in our lives at least once, whether it be something as petty as take a bit of money from your older sister or... something slightly worse. But I do know that you certainly haven't taken this greed to the extreme like Queen Sectonia here has.

Long ago, Queen Sectonia was the benevolent ruler of the Sky World above Dreamland, and good friends with Taranza. However, after acquiring the Dark Mirror which played a prominent role in "Kirby and the Amazing Mirror", her mind began to turn dark. She eventually wished to own everything, caring only about herself and her looks, becoming the narcissistic, tyrannical ruler you meet her as. Once you defeat her the first time, her greed and narcissism take a turn for the absolute worst. In an act of persistence and lust for power, she fuses with the Dreamstalk and basically becomes one with planet Popstar, turning her into a beautiful, yet at the same time utterly disgusting creature bent on using all the inhabitants of the planet as her food.

While her design isn't anywhere close to being as scary as some of the other bosses on this list, her very concept as a ruler who has taken her greed and lust for power too far just sells it to me. Admittedly her first phase is better than her second, but that's a minor problem we can easily overlook. For now, just enjoy your totally messed up wasp queen.

Oh, and the music's kickass as well.

Number 4:
Dark Mind

Theme:

The unfortunately underrated final boss of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror.

Seriously, who actually remembers this guy? Next to some of the other well-known Kirby final bosses, Dark Mind is but an afterthought. I'm sure there are actually people who remember him, but most people just stick to some of the other final bosses. Still, that doesn't stop him from being a generally creepy final boss.

While his concept as just "evil dark lord from another dimension" has been a bit overplayed in games, it's mainly his design that sells it to me. At first, he looks like your standard tyrannical overlord of darkness; dark cape, evil glare, spiky armor and horned helmet, and limbless floating hands, which all Kirby final bosses have for some fucking reason. However, his second form is slightly more interesting. See that giant eyeball that acts as his body? Yeah, that's actually his true form minus the armor around him. Sure, it's a pretty unoriginal design, but take a closer look; what IS it, exactly? In its sclerae are mechanical lines that look like some sort of computer. Is this thing artificial? And what's with the eye thing anyway? Is this the mirror world's version of Dark Matter? What is this being's true power then?

It's these theories that make Dark Mind truly mysterious and interesting, which in turn just makes it even more creepy. We know virtually nothing about this thing, and I think that's what's so great about it; we DON'T know!

Those are my thoughts on it anyway.

Number 3:
Marx Soul

Theme:

As if normal Marx wasn't creepy enough.

Yes, Marx returns to the scene in Kirby Superstar Ultra! He retains all of his attacks and abilities, but this time he brings along a secret new final boss to the mix. A being with even more power than the original Marx, and one that you can only fight at the very end of The True Arena mode. I of course speak of Marx Soul.

This motherfucker is a barrel of laughs, lemme tell you! First, his concept; Marx was killed by the Nova explosion back in Milky Way Wishes. However, his power was not quite eradicated yet. Absorbing some pieces of the Galactic Nova, he transforms into a hideous new version of himself, Marx Soul. Just the very thought that this is the undead reincarnation of one of your greatest adversaries alone is a creepy idea, but his design is what really gets me. It looks just like Marx, but more grotesque in every possible way; now he can split in two, transform into smaller paint-like versions of himself, and fire a giant laser beam at you.

And don't even get me started on his sound clips! All of them are horrifying in one way or another, whether it'd be his maniacal, distorted laughter, the sound of him splitting apart, or his ear-raping death scream. I think that scream alone is the reason why so many people remember this boss.

Or it could be the massive amounts of shipping on the internet. That works too, I guess...

Number 2:
Zero-Two (02)

Theme:

Let's be honest; we ALL knew this was gonna be on here.

Zero-Two, or simply 02, has become iconic in the Kirby community as being one of, if not THE creepiest final bosses in the series. We've all heard about this thing in some way or another, let's not kid ourselves. But do you actually know why he's considered to be the creepiest final boss in Kirby? Let's break it down.

First thing you probably know about Zero-Two is that he bleeds from his eye. That may not sound like much at first, but the real creepiness comes with the concept of what it's implying; this thing is BLEEDING FROM IT'S EYE. In a usually child-friendly game that focuses on bright colors and fun boss battles, having this chilling truth about creatures thrown at a particularly smart kid who collected all 72 crystal shards would cause them to piss their pants. Second, his design; it's a fallen angel who's revived himself through the powers of darkness and death... or whatever. You are pretty much fighting the Kirby equivalent of Lucifer! Third, the area you fight him in is beyond horrifying, being a red background with black lines traveling through it for some reason. Just what even is this place?

Zero-Two is indeed a creepy final boss, from his design to his concept and even the bleeding of his eye. And yeah, that's actual blood; confirmed in the official Zero-Two artwork! It really is a wonder how this series has managed to stay rated E for so long.

But is he the creepiest to me? No, not quite...

Number 1:
Magolor Soul

Themes:

Talk about a complete WTF moment.

Hopefully most of us have played Kirby's Return to Dreamland, right? We all know the lovable Magolor, right? The cute alien that crash-landed on Popstar and who Kirby helped get all his stuff back? Yeah, well, he's evil now. Yep, turn's out Magolor was tricking you from the very beginning! But maybe you aren't the only one who was being manipulated...

Magolor Soul is the horrifying final form of Magolor after he absorbs the power of the Master Crown. His body malformed into a disturbing dark version of himself, and to top it all off, in his mouth now is an eyeball staring you down. All of this is disturbing on SO many levels. First off, this isn't Magolor you're fighting; this is the Master Crown which has eradicated all trace of Magolor's being and has possessed his body, as the crown now covers most of it. All Magolor is now is an empty shell which the Master Crown has taken over; Magolor has no more control anymore. So creepy concept; check! His design? You just have to take one look at it and say "Yep! That's horrifying!". As mentioned before, the crown covers most of Magolor's body, sprawling off into an assortment of horns and spikes. But that eye... That one, single red eye emerging from his mouth sells it for me. Is this the doing of the Master Crown? Is the crown a parasite and the eye is its true form? Or maybe... is it something much worse; something far more sinister...?

Technically Magolor isn't MY most creepy final Kirby boss. That honor would have to go to the final boss of Kirby: Planet Robobot. But to spare you any spoilers, I won't talk about that now. Instead, just keep loving Magolor; the creepiest final boss in the Kirby series!

...again, for now. :P

And that was the list! How'd you like it? Do you have any suggestions for a future countdown I could do? If so, please post it down in the comments below! Until then, this is SuperKamek saying thank you, have a great night, and I really like spoiling myself of games, don't I? I spoiled Bravely Second, and now I've spoiled Planet Robobot! However, I'm hoping to save my thoughts for Pokemon Sun and Moon, so if anyone spoils anything about those games...

...you're REALLY not gonna like what happens next. :rainbowdetermined2:

You know why Kirby has to fight eldritch abominations, right? :rainbowhuh:

Because he IS one. :rainbowderp:

Well... That's just a theory. :pinkiegasp:

He has a universe inside himself... He is Invincible... He ignores physics.

3922520
The first one I get, but he's far from invincible and he hardly "ignores physics".

3922523

He is invincible. He never bleeds, never gets a scuffed knee, anything. He just takes enough of a pounding and then pulls an Eric Cartman "screw you guys, I'm going home." But he never actually takes any damage.

As for ignores physics, his stomach is a black hole, let's not even get into him not destroying any planet he steps on, yet he is able to inflate himself and fly... Somehow. He also has the ability to steal concepts from things he devours. Plus there is the whole summoning stars so he can travel faster than light thing, so there's that.

I remember fighting #5! Boy that was a tough battle.

~shiver~ I always hate fighting Magolor... And now I see an eyeball in his mouth that I've never noticed. And you used his EX final form.

3922984
Especially Sectonia's Soul version.

Thank god for Leaf Kirby. :rainbowlaugh:

3923088
His fight is also really hard, considering all the pushover bosses you've faced up until that point. Also, his EX form is called "Magolor Soul" and is arguably the creepiest version of him.

3923115

Hard?

Which powerup did you use?

3923420
Since I actually like to challenge myself, I used Water for my first time and Whip for my second time. Both times were some of the greatest moments of fun I have ever had.

3923427

Spark is my go-to.

Queen Sectonia: One of the best final bosses with the best final boss music (someone perfectly described Moonstruck Blossom as the beauty she wanted to obtain), but am I the only who sees that she has nearly the same backstory as Sunset Shimmer?
And please stop talking about Planet Robobot. The thumbnails on Youtube are bad enough already:raritydespair:

3924435
I actually didn't like Sectonia's battle all that much. You never really fought HER, but rather her little attack bud things. It was kinda lame for me, but whatever. Also, may you explain how Sunset and Sectonia have the same backstory?

3924460
Corruption and obsession with power through a mirror which also acts as a gateway to another dimension with counterparts of each character. Who am I describing?:trollestia:
The only differences I see are that Sunset was already antisocial before and instead chose to steal a magical crown which ultimately corrupted her even more (Oh, hello Magolor)
