Should I Continue To Censor "#$%^&" in The Thug Life Chose Me? · 3:49am Apr 29th, 2016
Hey there guys, it's my 20th blog, so here's another tidbit of information about myself (Feel Free To Skip After The Horizontal Rule For The Real Blog Issue):
I love to play this game called Runescape, and recently I've started streaming and making YouTube videos on it in hopes to entertain people by playing the game that I love so much. If you're interested, you can check me out on:

Okay, now that shameless self-advertisement is out of the way, onto the REAL blog.
In my story "The Thug Life Chose Me", I censor out a word I consider to be very offensive to some (including myself, since I am of African-American descent). That word, is as I'm sure all readers of the story knows, is "nigga" (or niggah, etc...). Now I want to ask the very few readers who do read my blogs...
Shall I continue to censor the word, or is it obvious enough that that is what "@#$%^" (or insert other combination of symbols here...) means? In other words, shall I keep censored because it is clearly understood, or shall I remove the censor upon the word so that the story feels more seamless? You decide, I hope to get at least one opinion upon this, as I've been thinking about it for quite some time. Thanks in advance c:
The story is "M"-rated anyway, so there is no need to censor anything. You can just write it out.
ะะตั!
You do not have to censor it but if it makes you uncomfortable and you see no need or desire personally to actually write out the word then I see no reason for you to do so.
If you want to censor it do so but if you see value in not doing so for any reason you certainly could write it.
Personally I am in a similar boat where I find the use of the word very distasteful but sadly at my work place many of my coworkers have no qualms of using it (even when management tells them not to).
3906607 I see. As of on a real-life perspective, I do find the word very disrespectful (despite the fact that I was once an avid user of the term), most especially when one that does not share my history uses it. However, on the perspective of the story, I do believe that I will go back to each chapter and remove the censor upon the word, as I feel it makes the story just feel more seamless.
I mean, really, I've seen and read a lot of gang-related stuff in settings similar to Brooklyn, and tbh, I've seen no restraint on the language, so I guess I shall do the same to give the full effect. I feel like it'll be better anyhow.
P.S: Thank you all for replying on the thread. My decision is made.
Fuck it, imo
