Nobody Panic! Big Bro is Here... (j/k plz panic) · 3:29pm Apr 25th, 2016
This was a really eventful weekend. Went to BABSCon 2016. Came home and my big brother is here visiting from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Not a surprise, and I love my brother (he's a major reason I'm such a nerd today--the guy collects Star Wars and Strawberry Shortcake for heavens sake) BUT OH MY GOD. If I thought his wife visiting was an extended trip through awkward city, this shit is worse. Yesterday we had a barbecue and everyone got drunk. Husband got mad at having to deal with the in-law BS and I don't blame him. I was literally trapped in the middle of three separate group hugs with people crying. I got tired and fell asleep before 8pm.
I'm happy my brother is here...kinda. We have a lot in common, but he's just so freaking condescending and touchy-feely at the same time. Suddenly I'm five years old again and big bro is stepping in, checking on me, giving unwarranted advice, and taunting my interests. He's got this air about him like, "Okay guys, I know you've all been telling me about your problems but I want you to know... I'm here now. Gonna FIX IT ALL." It is the epitome of the "prodigal son returns" scenario. My second oldest brother and I are both joined in our suffering. The next 3 weeks is gonna be a bit of a headache.
Now today I'm going to spend the entire goddamn day with Mom and Big Bro shopping. It's like spending quality time with an angry badger and Baloo the Bear.
Fuck me, I need a strong drink.
EDIT: got my parables wrong.
Damn! Hun I don't blame ya after having ta deal with all that! Don't worry, it'll smooth over eventually. (I hope!...) In the meantime, have tiny pancakes and a tiny ham-ham eating a tiny pizza
Um, the 'prodigal son returns' scenario is where a kid who messed up bad, knows they messed up bad, and expects to spend their entire life making up for the mistake, gets welcomed back with open arms because everyone thought he was dead. Or they considered him a traitor to the family, and were overjoyed at the show of loyalty that the simple action of returning implies.
3895495 sorry, I didn't give enough context. That's still pretty much what's going on.
3895598 But, you just described the scenario as him constantly acting like he's going to fix everything, and is the hottest thing since sliced bread...
3895621 if you knew my brother, you'd know that's how he handles his guilt.
I mean sure, if you want to say it's not exactly like the biblical parable, I mean... No, it's not.
I'll strike it out if it makes you feel better.
3895630 Hey, I'm just a guy who fixates on things that seem contradictory on the surface. No need to alter your journal on my account.
I don't know what to say about this but to laugh about it.
