    The Knife’s Edge

The other day I got a message from ZanarNaryon telling me they had created a TVTropes page for To Serve In Hell. Now, TVTropes can be a dangerous place to start reading, unless you have a few hours to spend getting lost in it. But if you want to check it out, please

Not with a bang, but a whimper

    Hey friends.

I didn’t used to believe in writer’s block as such. I always thought the phenomenon was a manifestation of something else in a person’s life. I also thought the cure for it was just to sit down and write any garbage you can. Editing should never mix with drafting, and if you can get yourself to stop editing, you’ll achieve more and better drafting—which can then be edited.

Ping 2: Live and In Person

Almost exactly 2.5 years ago, my family and I bought tickets to Whinny City Pony Con 2020. Of course there was no such con, at least not in a physical capacity. But good egg that he is, Charlie Worthley (con organizer extraordinaire) has made it effortless to transfer our tickets from that long-ago time to right now, despite all that’s transpired between.

    Ping

    I live.

    Time's gotten away from me.

2020 got weird. My 2021 started with an honest effort to get back to normal. But after I started getting treated for depression, I began to see more and more ways to improve things in my daily and family life that hadn't fit together very well in years. Including some of the core issues that had pointed me in the direction of MLP in the first place.

    Artistic Expression

It's been too long. Things are great. Really, really great. Not so much for writing, but for different modes of expression and life.

Dramatic Reading Double-Header: "The One Where Discord Gets All The Mares" and "Taco Sonata to the moon, baby." · 12:12am Apr 25th, 2016

Happy Sunday, folks! Today I present a pair of dramatic readings; one for which I did the reading, and one for which I did the writing. Check 'em out after the break. :coolphoto:

First, I was recently informed that the talented Ribon Chan assembled a full-cast reading of The One Where Discord Gets All The Mares back around Valentine's Day. Special thanks to Leonzilla for letting me know! I could nitpick a couple of lines, especially the French; but overall it brought a huge smile to my face. I don't often go back and re-read my stories, so I hope it isn't too self-congratulatory to admit that I ended up laughing several times while listening. Check it out!

The next one, Taco Sonata to the moon, baby., represents my second foray into dramatic reading. Taco Sonata is an absurdist parody of overused MLP fanfic tropes circa mid-Season 5 (up to and including the title's misuse of title-case and inclusion of a period), all mish-mashed together into a very special kind of crazy comedy. The reading uses LOTS of different kinds of music (including something old-school MLP fans will instantly recognize) in its quest to capture that essence. But on a more serious note, the circumstances of its creation were what led to me and Moosetasm first really notice each other and start collaborating, and my decision to record it is as a thank-you to him. Please give it a listen!

I regret nothing! :pinkiecrazy:

The Discord one is amazing. Will my envy ever end?

3894289 Well, on the bright (or dark?) side, it's probably a sign that my writing career has peaked, and I'll never have a story make it that big again. :derpytongue2:

Don't be silly. There's no rest for the writer. Get back to work on the next big one.
