Alternate Universe Tag? · 7:16am Apr 22nd, 2016
So, the last several weeks have been very, very busy... and difficult physically. Three days of geologic mapping in the middle of the Mohave Desert plus another two spent investigating Miocene era depositional environments in the San Gabriel mountains utterly decimated two consecutive weekends allowing for no chance of free time during the surrounding weeks at all. Hence my lack of updates to my account in any form.
Now, as to the blog title. I have so far been resistant to using the "alternate universe" tag for any of my stories because one; if you can't figure out that what I write is different from the show itself then you probably suffer from some ultimately fatal mental illness. Two; in most cases I have not had good luck in finding stories which use that tag to be particularly good. Well written? On occasion. But rarely enjoyable. For some reason the tag often seems to be used along side other tags such as "tragedy" or "gore". I won't touch stories with these tags with a 20 meter pole. My sexual preferences may be unpleasant for many but I refuse to write any story where bad things happen to good ponies. If you like that shit then go to CNN and clop to that.
I digress... I am wondering if I should be using, or in the future use the AU tag. My view of Equestria is rather different from the "cannon" and not just in terms of diapers.
In my stories, Cadance did marry Shining Armor but only for political reasons concerning the Chrystal Empire. And she certainly never got pregnant from him. ugh...
Twilight's library was never blown to kingdom come, and she does not live in the Chrystal Fuck You Lauren Faust™ playset.
If ever Twilight does get a castle it will be by rebuilding the ruins of the Castle of the Two Sisters in the Everfree.
Furthermore, I refuse to accept any episode demonstrating time travel at face value. Why? Maintaining cosmological information integrity. Closed time-like curves may work with quantum mechanical principles and scales due to the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle but not at the macro scale.
Also the idea of "Manehatten" is stupid. It does not fit with the rest of the Equestrian Nation. Its like Gandalf going to 1890's London.
Therefore, I am wondering if my personal views on Equestria make the settings for my stories, diapers or not, so different from cannon that the AU tag should apply?
Fuck me its late here and I'm tired.
Oh yah, and I hope to get some new writing done next week. Messy diapers FTW!
