    Droppin' By

Hello, I was in the neighborhood and had just realized that my last blog post was a bit of a downer, given that it was around the time of my Grandma's passing and funeral. I think I oughta leave you folks with something a bit more upbeat or at least something neutral.

    And Now, A Newsletter

Huh, back in July I said I oughta talk more around here. It's now the day after Christmas and I have not, in fact, talked more around here.

So, I'll give you the rundown on what I've been up to since then. Warning, it gets a little long in talking about last summer's vacation and about a new fixation I have.

Birthday Bios: Blossom · 3:23pm Apr 21st, 2016

Hey, look, it's that mother of Cortland that didn't really have a big role in The Rock Farmer's Daughters, having made that dinner the Apples shared with the Pies and was mentioned to be a gossipy hen.

...

You know, that makes me wonder if she might have been accidentally making the rumor problem worse in the background.

A descendant of one of Granny Smith's cousins, she was born as the middle child of five to a pair of gardeners. The most land that those ponies could claim was that of their home's immediate surroundings, on which they grew plenty of flowers, their own little vegetable garden, and a single apple tree. While her parents were busy tending to the gardens of those in town, Blossom and her siblings tended to the family's plants.

Ever since she was little, Blossom had been a chatterbox that could not keep a secret. Everything she was told, she always blurted out to the next pony that crossed her path. For this reason, she wasn't very well liked in school, and was often labeled a tattletale for getting other ponies in trouble. Even her siblings were wary of her, and thus she was often alone.

A lot of her alone time was spent daydreaming, often about what it'd be like to be a unicorn or pegasus, or even an alicorn like the princess. She'd weave fantastical tales in her head about the adventures of "Dashing Blossom", pegasus superspy facing many villains and creatures throughout Equestria, along with her unicorn sidekick, Magic Bloom. They always came out a jumbled mess whenever she relayed them to family members, however, and her siblings liked to pick on her for it.

Like the rest of her family, she had a talent for tending plants, gaining her cutie mark when she saved her family's apple tree from dying. She liked to imagine that each of the flowers had their own distinct personalities, and she liked to talk to them and tell them stories. Her reasoning is that they didn't judge her for her stories, and could keep secrets better than she could.

Family reunions also had most family members her age dreading her presence, though the adults liked to listen to whatever news about her family she had to tell. The relative her age she liked the most was a somewhat distant cousin named Haralson, with a curious and cheerful deposition that allowed her to just talk about her imaginings. Compared to her, he wasn't very talkative, but he did like to chime in with his own thoughts, and added to her stories with his own.

Once they hit adulthood, the two found they liked each other enough to marry (they aren't first cousins, so this is less uncomfortable for me). Once they did so, they went out to search for a place to establish their own orchard. After a while, they settled on the town of Nickerlite, located about thirty miles southwest of Ponyville. While the town was a mining and rock farming town, they decided that it could use a nearby fruit orchard to spruce things up.

As they began to settle in and start the orchard, Blossom got pregnant, and soon gave birth to a son that they named Cortland. After the initial first few months of keeping him in to take care of, they soon took him on walks around the orchard, in order to familiarize him with the trees and what his responsibilities would be once he was old enough. Blossom also took him to town, where she socialized with some of the local mares with tales of what it was like outside of Nickerlite.

The farm grew as the Nickerlite residents found that they liked the easier access to apples, and it spurred other farmers to come in and start their own farms. As both the farm and little Cortland grew, Blossom was learning more about what and what not to say, though she still had problems keeping secrets. Sometimes this ended up starting some gossip around town, often without her meaning to--like the time she argued with the Pies about whether or not her son was picking on their youngest daughters, twins Pinkamena and Marble Pie.

When Cortland was a teenager, Blossom became pregnant again. She nearly died giving birth to twins Stayman and Idared, and had to rest for a couple of weeks after the ordeal. Even after that, she was rather sickly, and took a while (as in, eight years) to get back to her usual vigor.

In her busy and solitary moments, she still likes to daydream, and in her social moments, she's one of the most talkative mares you'd ever meet (though it's toned down from when she was a filly). Just don't trust her with any secrets--they'll end up spreading like wildfire.
