...I can't even hit "Valve time." · 5:01pm Apr 19th, 2016
Sorry, folks. When I said "one week, Valve time" almost three weeks ago, that meant three weeks. And the chapter was almost entirely stopped during that time. I won't have it ready tomorrow.
*sigh* This always happens. I try to write a story, it goes on for a while, then I lose steam so early I can only feel guilty when I think about it again. I wish I had more follow-through. I think the last thing I finished was an 18-page Calvin and Hobbes fanfic fifteen years ago, and that was supposed to be the start of a saga. Maybe there were other things.
I've got to finish something. A one-shot might work; I have a bunch of ideas that don't need to be drawn out.
On a lighter note, I'm going to post an unrelated blog entry later today, or maybe tomorrow, mostly listing things I'd like to see in the show. I'm telling you now because I'll be throwing in some things that would certainly not appear in the show, and all of them could make for good fics of some length.
If you want some incentive to get a one-shot finished, there's a Writeoff Association short-story competition this weekend! You'd have 72 hours to write a story of 2000 to 8000 words. There's nothing like a deadline to galvanize vague ideas into actual written words — and if you like the end result enough to enter it in the competition (and can handle the trial of staying anonymous as readers provide feedback and constructive criticism), you'll get some fantastic feedback on what did and didn't work and how to polish it up in editing.
3880989 But... but what if I've already started every story?
I know, that's not literally possible, but it'd be cheating if I submitted a story I already started before the contest, and I'd feel awkward. And if I do follow the prompt and get a new idea, there's a more than even chance I'll blow past the deadline.
...Is there a "trunk story" contest?
