Thoughts on "My Flight"

Well, it's the most popular story I've put here (except for certain snips that I submitted to the MLP Time Loops).

But it didn't win any of the Scribblefest 2016 categories. Oh well. It still did well for something I thought over for a week, typed out in a single sitting, and barely edited at all.

Now that that's done, I want to mention a couple of things.

First, I wanted to make certain that I gave screen time to each of the Mane Six. For Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie and Rarity that was dirt easy- each of them had something Cherry Berry needed. Twilight Sparkle was a bit of a stretch. Fluttershy was pretty much impossible, which is why she only appears as an incidental figure in the bit that shows C.B. working and earning the bits she spends on flying.

But they were all incidental.

You see, I was working backwards from a single idea: the poem line, "...put out my hand and touched the face of God."

And at the end I had Cherry Berry, in mid-flight, wipe something off Celestia's face.

The whole rest of the story was buildup to that moment.

It amused me, but nobody else seems to have picked up on it.

Oh well.

The second point: Equestria's greatest earth-pony aviatrix will return. I'm cogitating a much longer fic in which she will be one of the main characters... alongside Queen Chrysalis.

The title of the story?

Changeling Space Program.

No Kerbals will be harmed in the making of the story.

(Don't ask about the changeling clones.)
