Like most of my favorite things from my writing, it was never planned. All I knew going into the chapter was that I wanted Sunset to tell off somepony for Fluttershy. When writing the scene I just put down the captain comment without thinking about it, and realized as a reporter he'd be able to blow her cover easily, unless she actually did become their captain. Then I realized that's the opposite of a problem and immediately made that happen

I love the idea of a doting and protective Sunset being super excited that she is officially the pony in charge of taking care of her marefriends Plus the prestige of the title would play into her ego.

3851193 I love this idea too^^ And now I imagine her reading a lot of chivalry books, and being very involved in future sessions of Oubliettes and Ogres. (Speaking of roleplay, I wanted Fluttershy's words to sound a bit more...kinky, I just couldn't find the words. ^^' I wonder if it has the right effect nontheless)

Twilight grinned. "So Sunset, your character's backstory involves her being captain of the town guard." She leaned in closer to Sunset, who averted her eyes. "Are we sure this is still an excuse?"
"I uhm..." Sunset looked up with a confident smile that didn't fool anyone. "I thought it would be good practice! I can work on my cover by playing the game!"
"Uh huh." Twilight shook her head skeptically.
"I, uhm... I kind of like having Sunset as our captain, actually," Fluttershy said coyly.
"Really?" Sunset asked excitedly, then remembered to play it cool. She leaned back in her chair. "I, uh, I guess it is kind of cool."

I caught what you were implying in the last picture It was yet another thing I loved, since we all know Fluttershy has them completely wrapped around her hoof As well as the purple accents on Sunset's armor, which actually is very similar to something in her official uniform from the upcoming chapter.
