Hardcover talks about plot: The Gift of Maud · 12:37am Apr 3rd, 2016
It’s a Pinkie episode. Really though, it’s more of a Maud episode.
Maud is good for comedic value, but she’s not great, since she’s basically the same joke told a little differently over and over. Although I do enjoy seeing her show her true colors about her relationship with Pinkie, she’s not exactly heartwarming.
Rarity is always a strong character, and once again Tabitha delivers a great voice performance with tons of expression. It’s just too bad the conflict revolves around Pinkie, because for a Pinkie episode, the plot was a little thin. Also, I find it weird how no one has questioned the hammerspace qualities of her party cannon, but now that it’s a plot element, Maud wonders where it is once she’s not using it, even though she pulls it from thin air all the time.
Lastly, I’ll say that I’m really enjoying the improved design of both environments and ponies. Manehattan looks really good and polished, and a lot of the background ponies we see have very different body designs from those in the past, especially the stallions. It’s details like this that make the world come alive.
Lastly lastly, will we ever escape Twilicane?
