Sooo, the Season 6 premiere... · 4:54pm Mar 27th, 2016
Not a review or anything. I thought it was good and it got me excited for what else might show up this year.
I just wanted to put this little note up here about two things.
Number one:
So, "An alicorn has never been born in the history of Equestria", huh Celestia? Nice to have a little confirmation at last regarding Celestia and Luna then! If they weren't born Alicorns then they must have ascended like Twilight and Cadence. So the big question is, what did they do?
Perhaps some answers this season? Or maybe it'll forever remain a mystery to explored via fanworks...
Number two:
We finally got to meet Sunburst, and he's a wonderful little dork. I kinda get shades of both Starlight and Sunburst embodying a lot of early-show Twilight Sparkle between them. Sunburst is her studiousness and brains combined with her social awkwardness, Starlight is her talent and eagerness to prove herself crossed with her fear of failure. Really, I'm looking forward to more from these two, or at least more of Starlight and Spike interacting. It felt like a nice little call back to the early seasons, watching Spike trying to emotionally bolster a nervous unicorn.
I'm rather interested in Celestia's comment about Sunburst being a "former student" of hers. Did she mean personal like Twilight, or was she just referring to Sunburst attending her School for Gifted Unicorns in Canterlot? It could go either way, but the latter would be slightly better for a little something I had planned with my own works.
Number three:
Baby Flurry Heart is ADORABLE!
... That's all I really have to say.
Oh good, so I'm not the only one who's wondering that. Considering that I was thinking Flurry Heart's arrival was going to help resolve some of the mysteries around the princess sisters, I wasn't expecting that little reveal.
"In the history of Equestria," could confirm royal sister ascension, or it could mean they were born before Equestria existed.

I suppose that's true, but given how shocked Celestia and Luna seemed to be over the whole affair and the fact that they had no explanation other than "It's never happened before", that suggests that they weren't born as alicorns either. Otherwise, you'd think one of them would have said "Oh, it's rare but not unheard of. It's a very auspicious occasion when it does happen, though!"
3832524 Ah, put like that it does make more sense.
3832524 Another thought, but that is assuming that the princesses are actually being truthful when they said that. Not to say they're lying per say, but given how they have a past history of being very secretive about their past, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the princesses are withholding the whole truth on the matter.
I don't think that's what the show has in mind though.
Didn't the "Journal of the royal pony sisters" book cover their ascension? I've never read it myself, but I think someone told me about that.

I didn't read it either, so this is news to me.

3898876 It did. They were found as infants in the wild by Starswirl the bearded, before Equestria was founded. Yes, they were already alicorns when he found them as babes, but we don't know where they came from or why that's so. So the comment Celestia made is still true. She doesn't know if she was born or created by magical means to be an alicorn.

Huh, well there you go then. Of course, the book and comics' canon regarding the show is always questionable until the show confirms anything. Part of the disadvantage of having so many different writers across all the different media I guess.
The show did confirm Celestia and Luna knew Starswirl, though I personally like the idea of him either being a court wizard who witnessed their ascension or him as a young magic student who helped them along whatever adventure caused their ascension. Him being their adoptive father of sorts is nice also, though, so I can dig it.
