The singular blog post that is a combination about me/bookshelf explanation. · 7:09am Mar 24th, 2016

IMPORTANT: IF YOU'VE GOTTEN A NOTICE THAT I'VE ADDED YOUR STORY TO ONE OF MY BOOKSHELVES AND YOU WANT TO COMMENT, PLEASE DON'T; A PRIVATE MESSAGE IS JUST FINE AND IS PREFERRED. SAVE THE USER PAGE COMMENTS FOR A GENERAL DISCUSSION AMONG VISITING USERS.

Hello there person that has stumbled upon my user page! You are likely someone who saw a comment of mine and decided to check out my page, or you happen to be an author that had your story added to one of my bookshelves and decided to see just who the hell I am!

SPOILERS:I am no one special; move along!

If you have decided to stick around after my warning, congratulations; you have quite a bit of free time to spend! Let me tell you a bit about myself and my bookshelves, since there's a chance that your story has been added to one of them. To start with, I have five basic bookshelves, though I plan to add a few more soon to help further organize the stories I've read; the bookshelves are as follows:

1. Read It Later: A default bookshelf, anything I find interesting but don't feel like reading at the moment goes here. This is a bit of a pickle because I have nearly 150 stories on this shelf and some of them are already complete -- but weren't when I added them. I need to go through this shelf starting with the completed ones and read them. The icon is a blue analog clock, it currently sits at 148 stories as of 2016/3/24.

2. Tracking: Also a default bookshelf, this bookshelf lets me receive both site updates and e-mail updates that let me know when you've posted a new chapter to your story. The icon is a purple banner, it currently sits at 124 stories as of 2016/3/24.

3. Complete: This bookshelf is one that nearly all stories I track go into when they're completed; any one-shots I've read also go into this bookshelf. This shelf like the tracking shelf lets me know when there are updates, as well as emailing me. (because some of you authors like to be sneaky and post an epilogue that links to your sequel!) This bookshelf icon is a green check mark and currently has 672 stories as of 2016/3/24.

4. Deadfics: This bookshelf is specifically for stories in the "Tracking" bookshelf that haven't updated for at least 1 year, plus or minus a week or so. This shelf also has tracking/emailing because there's a few here that I would love to read more of.

This bookshelf was founded in memory of the story "Nightmares Don't Last Forever" which is the 939th story on this site, initially published 2011/9/26, last updated 2011/11/10, the author hasn't been online in 222 weeks, so I'm sure that he/she's dead or dropped the site for good; either way I quite liked this story when it was new, and this bookshelf was made for this story and others that I liked as well that seemingly died. Cancelled stories also automatically go into this shelf when I peruse my tracking shelf, so if your story ends up here don't be upset about it, it's more a documentation thing on my end. The icon is a gray exclamation point, and this shelf has 162 stories as of 2016/3/24

5. Favorites: This bookshelf is a default bookshelf iirc, but it also has a unique purpose for myself -- the favorites bookshelf is for completed stories only, ones I find to be a cut above the rest. These stories are mostly multi-parters, though a few exceptional short stories made the cut. These stories are ones that I will have no qualms with rereading again every once in a while. The 5 stories on my user page for example, were picked exclusively from my favorites bookshelf. The icon is a light blue smiley face, and has 83 stories as of 2016/3/24.
----------
Holy crap you've made it this far! As an addendum, none of by bookshelves overlap with each other, so each number I've listed off is a unique story! I've read over 1000 stories, (1041 according to my bookshelves!) not counting the ones that I've dropped because of their poor quality/direction or the ones in my read it later! When fimfiction used to have a "words read" counter on the website, my counter was over 10 million, which at the time was 5% of the total words on the website! There's certainly been way more stories posted since that time, and I haven't had the chance to read them all, and it's likely I won't, due to my ever increasing finickiness towards the stories on this site (I've been here over 4 years, I've seen quite a bit of the trends) but if you've got an interesting premise or a crossover/ship I haven't seen before, I might just read your story! Just make sure your chapters are decently formatted and proofread and we should have no problems!
----------

Final Notes: I'm planning on making a new bookshelf soon, as well as making my existing ones no longer private. The new bookshelf is going to be splitting the "Complete" bookshelf, specifically splitting the single chapter and short stories (sub 20k/ to-be-decided) from the longer multi-part stories. (50k and up) There's a possibility of an extra bookshelf, as I'd like to have completed stories over 100k on their own shelf versus the 3k stories and the 30k stories. I'll get to that hurdle when it comes though.

I also have plans for a "Stumbled upon" and/or "reading it now" bookshelf, which is for stories that I either found via related stories tabs or offsite/comment section links. This shelf will likely not have tracking, as it's meant for stories that I've found and am reading through in segments, ones that I'm likely not to power through in one sitting. Think of it like grabbing a book, reading it for 2 hours, then slapping a bookmark in it to read sometime later.
