Some humble sketches · 3:52pm Mar 21st, 2016
I've been practicing my pony art. These are some of my better (recent) attempts. Since discovering existence of Silver Spanner, I've been trying to learn how to draw her specifically. I'm trying to unlock my right brain's potential, while identifying the characteristic shapes that are used to draw her. I've also been experimenting with different styles, ranging from cutesy (like the show), to indie western, to anime, to strange and impressionistic. I'm starting to get a bit faster drawing Silver's head, but I haven't tried doing a full body drawing yet, nor have I attempted her in different poses. It's extra challenging trying to draw when you have a toddler crawling on you 90% of the time.
You've definitely gotten the hang of her mane.

Yeah, I was pretty happy about that!
Now just to get pony anatomy down...
3819124 The third sketch is getting pretty close on the face.
3819127 Yeah, I was initially resisting committing to the cutesy cartoon style because I find those smooth, neat, feminine shapes a bit harder for my brain to grasp (my style when drawing people is more realistic with some edginess), but it's starting to get easier...
3819177 The cutesy cartoon style is pretty much the best way to draw ponies. Their facial structure tends to jump right into the uncanny valley in pretty much any other style.
3819181 I kind of like the style of the comics. It's still cartoony, but it feels more organic since they aren't vectors.
3819184 Agreed.
I love these scetches!! they are perfect. I will soon be releasing some Silver Spanner art

No problem!
