My major new Starlight Glimmer story is complete. It crossed the 50,000-word mark and thus is officially a novel. While the title is subject to change, it is tentatively titled The Enforcer and Her Blackmailers.
It's an edgy suspense thriller story that tells Starlight Glimmer's past and how she became the mare who would become convinced that cutie marks were the root of all evil, the mare who would found Our Town, the mare who would eventually warp time itself because of a broken heart, and the mare who—but for a coincidence in time—would have become the seventh element of harmony as recounted in Rediscovering Harmony. This isn't to say there aren't friendship lessons, here. Like her co-star, Sunset Shimmer, Starlight Glimmer doesn't know much about this friendship thing. But Starlight has to fight for her principles and her integrity, and eventually puts her life on the line to save her messed up not-a-friend friend by risking both their lives. In the end it is a story of rehumanization (or the equine equivalent).
I expect to begin publishing it, maybe as soon as Friday, March 18th, one chapter per day, hopefully four times a week. The first installments may at longer intervals as I'm now furiously cleaning up the manuscript and sweeping for plot holes and inconsistencies. It will be rated Teen for drug and sexual references.
This story adheres to canon with some compatible tweaks through the premiere of season 6 (and changes obvious from the teaser trailers). The events all happen some years prior to S1E1.
