So, I found out my niche in this community, I suppose - I can really only write oneshots.
Multi-parters, ones that tend to write themselves out as they go, are something I can't do. Northern Aggression had a planned forty chapters, only fifteen of which were completed. High Violet had eleven. Kindness of a Fugitive...I don't even know.
The first two won't be written simply because there isn't enough audience and I really don't know where to go next. NA I thought I had a next chapter, but then I relaized how stupid it was. A White House dinner banquet. The chapter itself might as well be at the banquet; it's the best filler anyone would've gotten there.
High Violet just can't be done. Too long ago, I ccan't get into it.
Kindness of a Fugitive... *sighs* I really regret publishing that. The original - The Fire and the Flutter - was written out entirely pre-publishing, so it was easy. But, as I've realized, one should never really put out multi-parters unless they know EXACTLY where they're going and a good amount of it is already written out.
However, I manage to do oneshots okay, I suppose - save for Annie Mae (shudders). I mean, Unsellable (no matter how much I wish that'd be on EqD, it's just not going to happen) has almost broken 100 thumbs (100! One hundred thumbs, people!) and my latest one, Taking Care, has almost broken fifty. That's crazy.
To be more specific, I can only do semi-sad oneshots, I guess. I mean, I probably could write comedy - but I feel a bit more comfortable writing stuff that should give people feels without having a totally terrible ending, like Unsellable or The Receiving End. My friend recommended I do an idea of his - which I might do, but at the rate I'm taking notes on my own ideas, my brain will need to establish a toll booth.
There'll be another story soon, and most likely it's going to be one of two things - one, some semi-sad oneshot like always (my growing area of expertise), or a spin-off of Unsellable, which would be a three-parter. THERE's a multi-parter I can write - a short, two to four chapter thingy.
In fact, Unsellable is spun-off of my original idea of Rainbow Dash attending high school under the care of her aunt and uncle - which is briefly mentioned in the story itself. There would be references to the events that occurred in the oneshot so many of you read, but it was going to be a pretty large project. A Slice-of-Life/Comedy/Normal story, with a touch of the feels at the end of every chapter, which makes them Magically Delicious (TM).
That idea still lingers in my head. But I fear not being able to complete it, and I'm too lazy to start it.
The spin-off would feature Rainbow Dash and Twilight going around trying to make amends to Dash's family life - see her dad, aunt, and uncle in the first part, ask where the others are, attempt to reconcile with her mother in the second, and finally - the most important - find her sister. Sounds good in MY head, at least.
Or, you know, maybe I'll write something happy and cheerful for once.
Nah.
Cheers,
A. Tuesday.
(P.S. Just noticed I mentioned every one of my stories except for one. So, drumroll please.............On the Shores of the River. There. Done.)
(P.P.S. How was that by the way?)
I would read that spin-off, I think.
