IN WHICH I RAMBLE ABOUT ANIME AGAIN
"Adagio" is slower going than I expected. Constantly getting distracted by real life events doesn't help. So instead of just toughing it out and writing a story for you like I should be doing, I find myself once again going to the well of anime I keep on hand. Why? Because it makes me happy.
Follow me down the rabbit hole for nerdy otaku bullsh!t.
Last week, the online anime retailer I often use was having a Discotek sale. That company mostly deals in old-school series, including several instalments of Lupin the 3rd, which for the two of you who read my blog know is one of my favourite anime franchise. Naturally I bought the recent Blu-Ray release of The Castle of Cagliostro, which I've already bought on DVD twice (once in 2003 and again in 2006). But I love that movie, so it's worth a triple-dip. They also got the distribution rights to Cybersix, which I missed back when it first aired. Cathy Weseluck plays the lead, so I may as well give it a try. Got a few other things too. Like School Days, because I am a glutton for punishment.
A few weeks back, I rewatched part of Twelve Kingdoms, my very favourite anime series. Yes, it's as good as I remember it being. Unfortunately, my plan was to introduce it to a friend who I know would love it. Sadly, my friend was too ill to take part. Thus, I stopped partway through the second arc. I mean, I've already watched 12K from beginning to end no less than three times, so there wasn't any point in my continuing. Shame, since the third arc is the best of the series.
Over the last several days, I've had a strong desire to reread and rewatch Oh My Goddess!. I own the entire manga except the final volume (which I'm ordering online within the week as my local bookstore didn't have it), as well as every bit of anime that's come over to North America – OVA series, movie, TV series, Mini-Goddess spinoff… own 'em – three soundtrack CD's (one of which is an import from Japan), the spinoff novel, and a couple of Belldandy figures… though I think Peorth is best goddess. I love this series, is what I'm saying. I really hope one of these days Discotek gets hold of the OVA's and movie and puts 'em on Blu-ray. Or maybe AnimEigo could do a Kickstarter to relicense the OVA's (which they lost a few years back) and put out a BD like they did for Otaku no Video (bought the DVD years ago).
So anyway, rewatching the OMG TV series, I can't help but enjoy it. Sure, I know damn well relationships don't work that way – mine hasn't – but it's just so sweet and silly and I love it.
One of these days, I should take photos of my anime and/or manga collection and post them here. I've got a few rarer items I'm kinda proud of.
I have a Sunset Shimmer plushie guarding my complete set of Urusei Yatsura anime. I'm not sure what this says about me, but I'm pretty sure it says something.
