One heck of a weekend. · 4:46pm Mar 6th, 2016
This was one heck of a weekend. This weekend I was back in the military. We come there hoping to get some rest and something to eat at friday evening, we get an apple and a 30 ml juice and then we're of to march, in the middle of the night. We start by having to run either 3 km on 30 min, 5 km on 40 min or 10 km on one hour, depending on which you made you get a different score. After that we start marching roughly 10 PM. We march through forest and swamp and it's bellow zero degrees. at 7-8 AM we stop and start setting up four 20 person tents + extras. this is done roughly two hours later, and it's time to eat! Right. We were split up in two platoons each divided in four groups. Each group chooses two persons to throw grenades (no charge in them, of course) you got eleven per group and have to prick these in three different boxes and you're only allowed to throw them over your head. Each time you make the grenade STAY in the box you get a point, up to three points per group. Each platoon gets so many canisters of food as they had accumulated points, which were one point per platoon, each being worth one portion for one person. This canister was all we had, which we had to split on 24 persons . After sharing some food it was time to start to work again, yay , six hours later we had a teamwork exercise where we were in our groups and had to use morse code and flashlights. Our group couldn't understand a word the group responsible for the unlocking of the storage chest full of energy bars etc. In the end we didn't get the extra food, but because we followed the rules we got two portions worth of can food per group for a total of eight portions for 24 people, yeah. So sleep deprived and hungry, we continued with getting wood for the night etc. 9 PM they ask us to be ready to move out, again, and we still didn't have permission to start the fire. So there we stood freezing, tired and hungry, waiting for new orders. We start marching and after a while we smell the smoke of a grill. After over 36 hour without any real food, we got 150 grams hamburgers, and boy did they taste good, especially since we were so hungry. roughly 11 PM we start the fire and can finally start getting some much needed rest, that is until you had to watch the fire, for me that was 2:30 to 4:00, THE worst of times. So after three and a half hour of sleep I have to go up again and sit watch the fire and keep it going for one and a half hour, going to bed again 4 AM, only to have to wake up two hours later... So much for sleep... Rise and shine! Time to bring down camp! yay. After barely any sleep we had to start removing the tent and so on, which took little over three hours. Breakfast! 30 grams of dark chocolate and six oat-cookies, and were of again. After walking for ten minutes we get to the bus to take us back and once back, 5 hours of cleaning stuff and such... After that me and three others get to go unload all the things we used that weekend , thankfully for more come fifteen minutes later. An hour or so later we're done and finally get to go eat, after that there was only some writing to do and thoroughly 14:30 we finally get on the buss home...
That was really tiring and my whole body aches. That and I manage to get hip in the head by a stretcher someone was carrying, which hurt since they're made of steel.
But enough about me, how has your weekend been, anything big happened?
