Since From a Sparkle to a Spark is on hiatus at the moment and I'm 80% certain the changes to Neo-Shine are going to end up affecting it in some way, I feel a little better about posting these ideas here since it gives you guys ample time to forget about them until I get back to the story.
Of the characters in the story, none of them were more in flux than Human!Twilight (Twilight Sparks). Since I originally started writing her before watching Friendship Games, she was originally going to be a foil for Pony!Twilight like Moon Dancer. Just replace depression with a lack of empathy. I decided to include the flashbacks when I realized she needed a motive for why she ended up the way she did.
And that motive was what kept changing. One moment it was experimenting on the ponies For Science! Another version had her trying to use magic to get revenge on Cinch for manipulating her. The Forgotten Five chapters I originally had had her getting blackmailed into continuing etc. The canon version I ended up going with was that she wanted to use magic to get her friend back; because after seeing into Pony!Twilight's mind, she realizes just what she's lost in pursuit of her constant studies.
Her ending too was in constant flux. Calinjc and Emperor pegged her as getting possessed by Searing. In my musings, that was the obvious choice but still viable. One idea had Searing genuinely trying to help Sparks only for the latter to prove to be the Devil in the Deal, absorbing Searing's power and becoming Midnight Sparkle. Another one had Sparkle and Sparks teaming up to beat Searing. And another one had Sparks trying to absorb magic directly from the portal itself. It ended the portal destroyed and with her in the same hospital from before, Human Sunset rushing to her bedside right before Sparks died from her injuries.

Hey, it was just an idea. It's not like I haven't written a Downer Ending before, remember?
Anyway, those were just some of the ideas I had for Spark. And I leave them here for you to fester on until it gets back from hiatus. Feel free to chime in with your own.
