Ranting about fic posting rules · 1:10pm Aug 25th, 2012
I've already mentioned this in a couple of places before (LGBT group and Finnish Bronies group to be specific) but I'll say it again: I find it to be very unfair and slightly racist that only English fics are allowed in this site. I mean, I can see why that rule is there and by all means the creators of this site are allowed to decide what kind of fics they accept in their archives, but that doesn't make me any happier about it. For shame!
Another thing that I only now paid attention to (thanks to being enraged by that previous rule before and thus not finishing the rules post) is the word limit for fics! The fics have to be at least 1000 words long, author notes and other non-story-stuff not counting. Way to go. What about drabbles or ficlets? Ever heard of those before? Drabbles are tiny little fics, the original definition for them is that they're precisely 100 words long, no more no less; there's also the other widely accepted version where the fic can be longer than that but generally along the lines of 500 words max. And this is where the word ficlet comes in handy if you don't want drabble purists to eat you alive for exceeding 100 words, as ficlet is an accepted word for short fics that are longer than those 100 words but not long enough that the authors dare to call them proper fics. Either way, they're both certainly under 1000 though and thus not acceptable for this site. Injustice and discrimination, that's what this is.
