Teaser for an upcoming story · 4:35am Mar 1st, 2016
February was okay. I wrote every single day. Little over 16,000 words total. Less than I'd hoped, but I'm glad I'm staying reasonably productive. I'll do better in March, I'm sure.
Here is a teaser for a short story I've been working on. It isn't finished yet, but it's getting there. I can't say when it'll be done and published, but I'm committed to see it through to the end and post it. Hopefully it'll catch your interest.
With every step Twilight Sparkle took, the desert stretched on just a little farther and the merciless sun shone a little hotter. The dry earth cracked and puffed dust as the princess lumbered across it. One more step, she told herself. One more step. One more...
“You’re going to die here,” her brother said.
She gritted her teeth and stared forward like she could will the horizon to give her something other than more sand and rock. Her chest muscles still burned from her long flight. She was so tired she could barely walk, let alone take to the air again.
“Give up.” His voice was so calm.
Twilight swallowed empty spit. Her body ached and her mind swam, but she couldn’t stop; if she didn’t deliver the peace offer, the southerners would leave Equestria a bloodsoaked wasteland.
“They won’t listen to you,” her brother said.
Twilight spun toward him. “Shut up!”
But there was no one there, just rocks and dry shrub and her hoofprints trailing far across the sand.
“You’re not real,” she breathed. “You’re dead.”
No one answered.
Chest aching, she turned and continued southward. Dehydration was playing tricks on her mind, that was all. All that mattered was finding the southern king and ending the war.

I am very excitebike for this upcoming story. Would this story have anything to do with the previously mentioned? (Mostly referring to your "Do you prefer 1st or 3rd person?" blogpost.) Regardless, keep up the writing.
Now that's a hook!
Interesting that many of your recent stories seem to feature dysfunctional sibling relationships.

No, this is a different project than the 1st vs 3rd person one. It's my juggling of multiple projects like this that results in lots of words written but few finished stories. I'm gonna try my best to keep focused on this story until it's done. It's a short story, most likely under 7000 words long.

I have a special place in my heart for stories about broken families. There's a tragic beauty in the way once-close individuals can grow close again.
