Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Midnight Rising/C&C update: April showers may bring May flowers...

But of more interest is the emergence of 17-year cicadas in my area. Big, ugly, red-eyed insects that are the size of your thumb but basically harmless, as long as you can get past all the shed skins they leave behind on leaves and the everpresent and disconcertly loud background sound they produce as a mating call. Fortunately, the outbreak in my area seems pretty limited. There's a few around,

New Friendship Games-based story by Leo Archon · 4:29pm Feb 28th, 2016

Hey folks...

For Unleash the Magic fans, my longtime partner in writing crime, Leo Archon, has written a new 3000-word one-shot set in the immediate aftermath of the Friendship Games. It's not adult, but a couple of you expressed disappointment that Cinch's takedown in the final chapter of UtM was too quick. So here's an expansion of it, written by Leo and edited by me, where Cinch is taken down hard by a surprise figure, and you learn that far more was going on behind the scenes than the movie implied.

Leo has been cowriter on many of my projects, from Turnabout Storm to Rise of Firefly. He's made my works better, and I try to do the same for him. So please give him a look and a like, and check out his other stuff as well.

Here's a teaser of Her Legacy Won't Endure...

It was a tense scene in the schoolyard of Canterlot High School. Local students and visitors from Crystal Prep had just witnessed the corruption, madness, and purification of one Twilight Sparkle, a student from Crystal Prep who was competing in the Friendship Games.

They hadn't even recovered from that shock when Crystal Prep's principal, Abacus Cinch, had demanded CHS's forfeiture from the Games, claiming the use of magic constituted an unfair advantage over her own school, and that CHS's students were using magic for their own benefit. Principal Celestia of CHS had replied that saving the world was for everyone's benefit, and the Crystal Prep students had rallied behind their former opponents, much to Principal Cinch's consternation.

"Obviously," she snarled at Celestia, "my students have been infected with your magic, but I plan on taking all of this up with the school board!"

Whatever reply Celestia might have made was pre-empted by another voice entirely. "That will not be necessary, Abacus." Everyone blinked, and turned towards the speaker.

Approaching the crowd of students and administrators was a woman in a crisp white business suit. It matched her pale skin rather well, and had a pin of an inkwell and quill above her left breast. A long flowing mane of brown hair came down to the middle of her back, framing her blue-green eyes. She stood as tall as Celestia, and her face was set in a neutral expression.

On seeing her, Principal Cinch's composure returned. "Ah, Superintendent Faust. Your timing is rather fortuitous..."
