Derp Analysis · 2:45pm Feb 28th, 2016

Well, it's safe to say that my first use of the auto-approve system went well. :derpytongue2: I certainly wasn't expecting Rerouted to be featured. It was very interesting to see that even before it hit the featured box, it got more votes and views in under 24 hours than One Day I Found a Multiverse in My Pajamas got over the course of a week. I suppose when writing an AU adventure sequel with Best Pony and spacetime shenanigans, it helps if she's actually a pony. Also, Rerouted is less than half as long as ODIFaMiMP, and Undeliverable is more than an order of magnitude shorter than Oversaturation, which likely brought in more people.

I hope I don't come off as whiny here. I won't deny there's a touch of Magnum Opus Dissonance at play, but for the most part, I just think this is interesting data. I'm almost always surprised when one of my stories hits the box, so each time it happens means there's another opportunity to try to figure out what people look for. You know, other than clopfics. :raritywink: (Also, I'm trying to stay in the habit of blogging on Sundays so I don't forget to start Friendship is Card Games back up when Season 6 premieres.)

On a less self-serving note, if you like thinking about language works, you may be interested in Xidnaf's YouTube channel. It's full of thought-provoking videos on linguistics, etymology, and the sheer weirdness of human speech. (And the odds of it getting taken down due to copyright claims are virtually nonexistent, so that's a plus.)

That title. You've made me picture a pair of cephalids dissecting a pony. The specimen seems to be broken.

Try to picture Ditzy and Dinky dismantling a masticore instead. Possibly making it into a planter.

The feature box's whims are mysterious and otherworldly things, not to be looked at too closely by inquisitive mortal minds. Many have tried to work out the golden rule, the secret formula which will unlock guaranteed success, but such a thing is closely guarded. Some say that to learn the secret is to go mad. Others say that madness is just what the ignorant call enlightenment. Either way, I don't envy those who peer into that abyss. Just think of what they must see in the darkness, staring back...

That said, dark comedies about Discord seem to be the way to go. You should try it.

3782006 *shitposting, usually.

I had hoped against hope that Tales might at least be appreciated, but no, of course not. It wasn't noticed, and I was beset by the downvote fairies of both Sir Hat and MythrilMoth, running to the defense of their retarded masters.

One thing that can work for/against a work if it is a sequel is what the preceding work was. For instance, I almost didn't read it because I hadn't read the other story, and given the subject matter, I am probably not going to. But then it was you, and it was about Ditzy and Dinky.

Sequels just tend to have more variables to them when it comes to likes vs dislikes.

The dark and gore tags have a tendency to bring downvotes as well, so does the sex tag. That could have had as much to do with it as anything. Number of followers seems to be a big factor as well.
Of course, tags like slice of life and romance seem to discourage views, so... :twilightoops:
