Headcanon: No, Princesses...I am your father · 10:32pm Feb 19th, 2016
So it's been forever and a day since I've done diddly-squat on this site and I had some free time to overthink a show targeted at little girls and came up with an idea that I've yet to see and is therefore hopefully new:
Discord is Celestia and Luna's father creator.
So Discord is nothing if not chaotic and, at one point ruled over Equestria, shitting on everyone's lives and whatnot. I would assess that this was some time after the events portrayed in Hearth's warming where the three tribes moved to Equestria; this would allow some form of civilization to spring up...only for Discord to come along and ruin it.
But being an all-powerful spirit having conquered the land, and being the spirit of chaos, how long would it take for all his antics to get boring? To need a bit of spicing up?
But how to spice things up? How about adding a new threat to try to overthrow his reign? A being (or beings) on par with his own ability. Something that would present an actual challenge.
It'd be safe to wager that the ponies under Discord's rule wouldn't be too happy, and thoughts of rebellion would be rampant where unquashed. What better (perhaps even chaotic) way to create a challenge than to spark this rebellion by creating beings for the ponies to rally behind?
Yet not just any beings would do. The ponies might become suspicious or even reject something they thought their omnipotent overlord had created. So why not create their 'gods', then?
Back up one civilization, to the moment of that civilization's start...
If you'll remember, back during the time of the three tribes it was the unicorns who raised the sun and moon. There were no princesses...yet here we see them on the flag of Equestria itself. Why? Perhaps they were the popular gods at the time...and perhaps they would be the perfect manifestation that Discord would need to get his rocks off.
So fast forward again to a tiring Discord looking to get a fix of fun. He creates the Princesses in an effort to spark a rebellion to give him something to do. But instead of victory, the very things he made to defeat in turn defeat him and take the throne themselves.
Heck, maybe his unhappy citizens were rallying behind their false gods and Discord did it to defeat such thoughts once and for all, only he overestimated his abilities and got his ass turned to stone.
Has this idea been had before? God, I hope not.
What do you guys think?
