Here be spoilers for the story, The King's Gift. Don't say I didn't warn you!
By some miracle, my latest story offering to the King’s legacy and the FIMFiction community, The King's Gift, was actually approved on Hearts n Hooves Day – within the hour after I uploaded it for approval! This was good and in a way, bad.
Since it was written in a mad rush, at a Doctor Who convention with noisy fans in our hotel room, the din of #lobbycon screaming around me and the wail of a fire alarm some twat tripped during closing ceremonies, it wasn’t exactly my best work.
I’ve spent since then going back over it, once a day, cleaning up typos (there were very few, actually), polishing up scenes, etc. Today was a particularly intense two hours of scene refinement, so if you haven’t read it in the last two or three days, I recommend you go back in and give it a reread. There were a couple of scenes that definitely now either flow better or make more sense. And I promise, it’s done – unless somepony points out a glaring problem with it that will end my world if I don’t fix it, but at this point, I doubt that’ll happen.
And, I will have a treat for its readers and fans. By the weekend I will be blogging a cut scene which was just too good to throw in the recycle bin, but slowed down the pace of the story and had absolutely nothing to do with the romantic aspect of what was going on between Nyx and King Sombra. You war-mongering Sombra fans will love it, guaranteed. Just think, war and our King intimidating the crap out of his fallen enemies and you’ll realize where he was coming back from when he slithered up the castle’s structure on his way to see Nyx.
So what does everyone think of the King’s obnoxious little git, Tight Planner? In the spirit of true timey-wimeyness, he is a character I created for my Sombraverse for a story that hasn’t premiered yet. I just love the idea of Nyx having an obsequious little toady around to humiliate and torture when she’s bored. My husband and I joke that Tight Planner and Neris (the Marazon councilbitch from Mad Seeress of the North) should get together – they’d be perfect for each other.
That’s all for now. Gallifrey One was a blast. I’ll blog some epic, cool pics later. Right now I gotta get writing on this week’s bit to keep us Sombrawhores entertained.
Later, Ponies!
Yeah they were pretty fast with the approving on Sunday, I uploaded a short little comedy piece called the Mysterious Explosion and within three hours of sending it it was approved and visible.
I thought Tight Planner was hilarious, especially his fate of having been tossed into the moat.
Glad you had fun at the convention.
I was planing to get ahead of everypony else by submitting it two hour before midnight. I had hope it would get approved within the first hours of Hearts n Hooves day. But instead it got approved 40 minutes later, a well hour and 20 minutes before midnight. Surprisingly though rating got up pretty fast within that hour.
