The End of Gravity Falls (Plus Thoughts on Modern Animation) · 12:30pm Feb 16th, 2016

What? I'm not crying. YOU'RE crying. :fluttercry:

Ponies will ease the pain :pinkiehappy:

In all seriousness, there goes another great piece of animation. Out with a bang, just like we all wanted. And a boatload of feels so we won't forget it anytime soon. That clinches it. This really is the Golden Age of animation. So many feels in so few years, all from animated TV shows: Rick and Morty, Steven Universe, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, Gravity Falls, Over the Garden Wall, Star Vs. the Forces of Evil, etc. We might get a few (or a lot) of duds, but for every three bad shows there's one good one that overwhelms the crap. It might not seem apparent at first, but the recent years have really been amazing in terms of fiction. We've gotten some truly spectacular and memorable cartoons, some great animated movies, and some really good video games.

Short Version: A lot of awesome cartoons have been coming out in recent years and it's sad that one of them had to end, but it was still an ultimately gratifying ride.

Personally, although I DID cry at the last 20 minutes of the end of Gravity Falls. I'm INSANELY glad it did end. Instead of carry on past it's prime.

Alot of television shows don't know how to end. They tell a story, and then they basically tell the same story a million different ways because "we don't want it to end! waaaaaah!" And this is related to a rant I have about the status quo in western culture. I mean, I understand the need for a comfort show, but WAY too many take that path.

But Gravity Falls, and other shows as well, chose to tell a story, and end once the story did. And it's ENTIRELY what they need to do. They need to take one path, start to finish, and leave us wondering about the different things they could have done. Shows need to respect our creativity and intelligence. As well as our love for well written things. And in that regard, Gravity Falls is by far one of my favourite shows.

3759848 My thoughts exactly. I'd rather my favorite shows end sooner rather than later. That's why I tend to prefer story-driven animation. With a clear end goal in sight, there's no threat of it falling into what I have dubbed "Simpsons Syndrome" and just going on forever until people are thoroughly sick of it. Chances are, people are going to remember shows like The Simpsons for how bad they got in their later seasons. People are going to remember shows like Gravity Falls for how good they were throughout.
