A test of will · 2:35am Feb 10th, 2016
Hello my dear readers, or at least the ones who read blog posts, it is I, Cicero Niche. I come here today to make a pledge. An oath, if you will. Those of you who are of a Christian background may recognize tomorrow (Wednesday, Feb 10, 2016) as Ash Wednesday, or the beginning of the Lenten season. For the less informed this is a time of repentance and self-purification for Easter, emulating the forty days and nights Christ fasted in the wilds before coming to Jerusalem to celebrate Passover at the Last Supper, followed by his arrest, execution, and subsequent Resurrection. Christians are expected to undertake certain obligations, as well as giving up some item or habit for the season for reflection on the deeper meaning of Christ's sacrifice.
The reason for this sudden Sunday School is I have a few confessions and commitments to make. I confess to you, dear readers, that I have not been dedicating myself to this story as much as I ought, and instead have been slaking off, playing mindless games, watching YouTube, and looking up porn. Lots of porn. This is an infringement not only to you, whom I have promised to spin my tale to, but also to myself, as it has made me a liar and broken my personal commitment to improve my craft. With these in mind I type this out here to proclaim a new commitment. As penance for these infringements and for the betterment of my whole, I promise for the duration of Lent
1. To write at least one page of story per day (one page specifying one page of text in Google docs, 1.5 space, Ariel font)
2. To cut out fast foods and perform at least 50 sit-ups before bed each night (this is more for my personal health and fasting)
3. To completely cut out porn from my days, which has been an ongoing issue bordering on addictive levels. I will avoid falling into this temptation so as to focus more on my current goals.
With this commitment made, I hope to press forward through this Lenten season and come out a better person as a whole. I will endeavor to release new chapters as they become acceptable, and hopefully reach the beginning of season five before it's over. Wish me luck!
