What mighty contests rise from trivial things
- Alexander Pope
Well, after being on this site for three years, I have finally written a story of my own. After a while, one starts to feel ungrateful, reading every great work that the fandom has to offer but not contributing anything in return, so I decided to remedy that.
The premise of the story is not based upon any existing universe, but rather making a new one - new characters, new locations, new history, and all the works it entails. In essence, it explores the idea of the Internet as we know it if it were re-imagined as a pseudo-fantasy world, with websites, fandoms, and petty dramas spun as nations, powerful factions, and globe-spanning wars. Many of the things that we think of as mundane and trivial in our own world - like, for example, the movies and television shows that gain large fandoms - are treated as things of the utmost importance, even worship, within this very different universe. One such fandom surrounds a group of colorful figures from an alien dimension, known as the "Six Friends Who Are One" - I imagine that you can guess who they are. Our story itself focuses on the followers of these Six, the society they have built, and how they must work together to defeat a masked threat that has seemingly targeted them.
I think of this as sort of a thought-experiment. Just imagine what life would be like if the ordinary Internet we knew - with all its communities, its absurdities, its petty meanness and its astonishing ability to bring people together - was portrayed as a fantastical world, its most iconic features made both instantly recognizable and utterly different at the same time. It raises a lot of questions about what such a world would look like, and what strange people would live in it - all of which are things I hope to explore.
I think some sincere thanks are in order, now that this is finally starting. First and foremost, my most profound appreciation goes to my friends and editors who have helped me in bringing this story to life. I cannot be certain if the site at large will see this story as a success, but it would not be even half as good as it is if not for the aid of both DaveKenroy, who was helping with this from the start, and more recently Curious Quill, who has proven in just a few weeks to be one of the most valuable resources I've had in getting this thing ready. There's no way I could have done it without that help.
I'd also like to thank the site mods, for being willing to publish this story on here - it means a great deal to a new writer like me. I would, of course, like to thank the people who made the show, without whom this would never have been made at all.
Finally, I'd like to say how thankful I am for all of you, my friends. This fandom has been a constant inspiration from day one, having been filled with such incredible talents as Kkat and SoGreatAndPowerful, who helped change us from a pack of strangers into a community. I'm only glad now that I can contribute to it as well. Thank you all.
Well, this is definitely an interesting concept. Considering I am reading 2 fics currently, and have 96 on my tracking list with 5 actively being updated, it will have to go on my real later list.

Wait, so it was released just 2 days ago? And you have a 11/2 like ratio. Heh, you are certainly doing better than I did.

Well, with it involving the Anonymites, the Chan Wars, the Devien Isles, and many other fandoms to come, it'll only get better.
3713706 Hopefully. Or there will be a fandom clash, followed by your story getting disliked to Tartrus. But hey, that's just the worst-case scenario.

It's not my story, though.
3713742 Derp. Writing during a homework burnout and at 19:00 is bad for the logic.
3713674 Thanks for the consideration! I promise that you won't regret adding it to the list. As for the attention, I think that it's probably to do with the concept behind it. Obviously a story with this premise is a little hard to advertise, seeing that it doesn't really fit into many established groups, but I think the idea behind it is novel enough that people are interested in seeing what it is.
3713706 If you like world-building, then you are in for a treat. That is easily my favorite part of writing, so there will be a fair amount of it present in this story.
3713741 Yeah, here's hoping we can avoid that.
3713804 Found it. There's the Supporting Original Characters group and the Original Ideas group. You can put this on those.

When it comes to writing, worldbuilding is my favorite thing. I'm more likely to forget what story I was trying to write and just keep expanding on the world. If you ever just want someone to bullshit around with and create random worlds, hit me up. I'm always down for stuff like that.

'Grats on getting on the popular stories list!
