A Shadow of Resolve · 11:12pm Jan 14th, 2016
Now that it's 5 PM in the Windy City, I'll make a more official blog entry than the mad scramble I had last night. As I mentioned, today happens to be the completion of my first year on the site. I came to this fabled land on January 14, 2015 at the urging of another cathorse enthusiast, who wished to see me post the first chapter of what would come to be A State of Darkness. At the time, I really had no idea what I was doing on the site. I had published a novel some years before - and dabbled in poetry - but with my physics work, chances to write fiction were few and far between.
A story without a plan somehow grew into a nearly 85000 word tale. Along the way, I accumulated friends and writing compatriots. I came to edit some of your works. I talk to many of my followers on a daily basis. I think that pretty much nails home my point that followers is a bad word choice. Friends is far better. It seemed fitting that on the same day in 2016, I would launch the next adventure. Some of you caught on to Trigger's quote in the Author's Note of Installment 29. We're not done here. There are still dreams to be claimed and excitement to be had.
That being said, I hope you all enjoy the sequel. I hope that you continue to give me all that wonderful support that you have over the last 365 days. I'd like to see the second trilogy touch benchmarks that the first could not, and I'm relying on all of you to help me see that it happens. A Shadow of Resolve will touch upon several areas that I left open in A State of Darkness. For starters, the Oceans of Nightmare and Reverie will be explored. What the heck are they? Why do they exist? What does it say about the world? These are things that I didn't dare answer in ASoD, but we will have progress in ASoR. I'll drop a giant notice that our resident physicist will come up with a theory of magic that i think is legitimately crazy enough not to explain in full to anyone until I reveal it in the story. As for what other shadows linger within the pages to come, I think I'll just leave that as a surprise. After all, just like the prequel... there isn't much of a plan... just writing.
