Okay I need all of your guys help! · 9:09pm Aug 19th, 2012
Now as I said in the comments I'm rewriting the story A Special Night because quite a few people said it was rushed and sloppy and I agree with them. So I am in the middle of rewriting it and I'm really liking how it is turning out! Here is the problem that I need help with. Many of you have faved the story and also began watching me and I am very grateful! But I need o know how I should add the rewritten chapter. Should I get rid of the current one and see how this one doe? Or should I add it as a new chapter and let readers choose which one they want to read? Or should I just post it as a new story (which I really DON'T want to do)?
Well guys I'm all ears and I need quite a few people's opinions in order to help me make a decision. So please tell me what you think I should do and Thank you all!
I await your responses with Luna!
replace the chapter is my suggestion
Maybe you could remove the current chapter, add the rewritten one, but still make sure you have the original saved on your computer. After people read, then they can decide if they want the old or new one. I dunno, I've never rewritten a story so I'm not the best person to ask.
I'd say add it as a new chapter than ask which one is better. That way, if the original turns out to be better you're not going mad trying to get it back up exactly as it was written.
Seeing several different ways a rewrite can go, my own personal preference would be, mark the original chapters at the end with (Original), and add (Rewritten) to the end of rewritten ones. Leave the originals up, just to let readers see the difference as they please!
All noted so far thanks!
LARGE AMOUNTS OF STRESS HERE!!!!

What this pony said^
I'd say replace it, since you're the author and I suppose the rewritten chapter will match better with upcoming parts. If the rewrite differs widely you could still link to it at the end of the chapter somehow (or once the story comes to a conclusion, add it as annex).
I'd just post a google docs link to the old one and then put the rewritten text up. That wy you don't have any extra chapters or take up any extra space.
Blast. I was watching ponies and missed a chance to be helpful! I'd have to say, just replace the chapter if you still have the orginal in a file. Otherwise, just add the rewritten one with a notice at the end. And don't stress out! We don't need a Twilight level melt down here.

Agreed... no melt down!

is it bad that I don't have google docs... hehe oh God....
I think Ultra has the best idea so far. It seems to give the most control to the readership, and, in the end, that's probably what you want. The easier it is for readers to experience your story, the more will do so. Plus, many will probably read both, meaning they're pretty much getting almost twice the story!
You can't lose!
Please keep writing, I'll keep reading!
I'd keep the original and post the new one as another chapter but mention that its chapter one rewritten. (I actually ended up doing this on deviantart with my story "Elements of the heart")
Well honestly, from the way the comments were geared, I would just go ahead and re-do your current chapter (But keep a copy on hand, just in-case). However you are the author, and what ever you feel needs to be done, should get done. If you feel this emotion, or that sentence be more prominent or completely scraped then do it, no one here knows this story better than you.
However, if it were me, I would publish a redone chapter one alongside of the current, and let the reader choose.
But, Ultimately, it is your decision.
