Ben & Twilight {Related to Chapter 17} · 1:58am Jan 10th, 2016
For my most recent chapter in Tick-Tock The Bet is Up, I felt it was necessary to have the princesses take a look at things from a different standpoint. It would've been weird to have Ben and the others just leave Canterlot without a problem or questioning after the entire capital had been taken over by a deranged clown. So questioning was necessary, and things needed to be answered. Especially since no one has really asked where Ben or the others are from due to all the different things that have been happening.
I also decided to have both sister's view Ben's past from a different viewpoint. If you think about it Ben's entire past along with Gwen and Kevin -Rook later on- is quite amazing. Especially since he never knew what he was doing when he got the omnitrix in the first place, but just guessed and occasionally lucked out. Which is what made me compare him to Twilight.
Twilight's been taught and trained under the princess herself. She's had years of time to learn, gain experience and knowledge.
Ben had no such thing.
He had no one to teach him, no one to show him what to do and no one to help him when times were rough with the omnitrix except his grandpa and Gwen when he first got the watch. Sure there was Azmuth, but Azmuth didn't appear till much much later. And even then Ben still had to work out a majority of problems on his own.
Twilight had it easy in my opinion. Sure, Twilight is young. Sure Twilight and the others have been through some trying times. But Ben was younger. Kid was like in fourth grade when he got the watch and began facing all sorts of perils, sometimes he was alone, and his family couldn't reach him. Twilight however has had her friends by her side. Spike especially whenever things got rough.
If we compare the times Ben has had to do things alone. The best time would be in Ben 10 Alien Force. Not sure if anyone's seen this or not but that's what I'm here for so no worries. In AF, Ben and the others take a break from the hero saving gig for five years. Ben's 15 and he goes to visit his grandpa. It isn't till later on he realizes that his grandpa's missing and he needs to be a hero again after living 5 years of a normal life.
Around this time Ben has to do quite a bit of growing up. He loses his goofy nature, he becomes more serious. He gets a girl, yet he never finds out where his grandfather is till much later. And when he does find his grandpa he actually tells him when it looked like they'd meet for the last time that "He can't do this alone."
Grandpa Max tells him "He doesn't have to." Boom this right here. That short exchange between the two, shows us that Ben like Twilight fears failing, fears not being able to do the right thing and screwing everything up. And just like Twilight Ben doesn't have to face his battles alone like he thinks.
The major difference between the two is that Ben and Twilight tend to approach things differently. In the chapter I mentioned how Luna believes that Twilight and the rest of the mane 6 would have had troubles facing some of the things Ben did as a kid or even in his earlier teenage years once he retrieved the watch.
I say this because while Twilight and the others are all tough and in their own ways strong. Twilight could or may have failed in some of the things Ben didn't. Same applies with Ben, Ben could have failed in things Twilight didn't. Ben takes a forward approach, thinking along the way. Twilight doesn't. She thinks things through carefully before making a decision.
An example would be Discord. When Discord returns, Twilight is tricked and outwitted by the draconequus every step of the way because she didn't know anything about him and therefore wasn't sure how to counter his actions quickly enough till the end. In Ben's case, he would have just attacked Discord from the get go, thinking up a plan along the way.
That's the difference and similarity between the two. Just wanted to clear that up in case there was some kind of misinterpretation with the chapter. Thanks for reading.
