Zero Blogs: Swallowing Pride · 1:35am Jan 7th, 2016
If you guys have been following me for a while, you'll know I've made several revisions of my work since I started here. Each time, the revisions and rewrites were made with the goal of taking poorly written or rushed parts of the story and making them work better. Pretty much turning the bad to good. I had no problems with that; in fact, I even requested help with that when I rewrote Dusk.
But then there's the other side of the coin. Not just taking something bad and making it good, but taking something good and making it BETTER.
I admit, when I first saw that reply from EQD, I was bummed out about failing a second time after all of the changes I made since the previous try. The knee-jerk rebuttal (I didn't actually say this mind you) sounded something like:
"Why do I have to make MORE corrections? I busted my butt fixing this thing up and it's still not good enough? I already have 209 likes, I shouldn't have to cater to you!"
Rose: And now you've lost all of your supporters at once.
Hey, I'm honest. I don't hide behind any sort of facade on this site.
Anyway, then I gave it some thought. I won't bore you with the details, but I ultimately came to this conclusion:
"All he's really saying is that your story is good, but it could be better. If the suggestions he made genuinely makes the story better, then it doesn't matter WHO gave them. Just try the suggestions. If they work, they work. If they don't, you can easily change it back."
When I have a moment of weakness, I try to rectify it as soon as possible. Recognizing these sorts of things is important for personal growth. But yeah, I'll be taking some of those change ideas into account and using them to improve Shine. Depending on how far this goes, I might even revoke the submission and label it as REMASTERED or something.
Here are some ideas I've been throwing around:
A more detailed backstory for the Dazzlings
Involving Celestia more in the plot.
More interaction between Sunset and Celestia (Not like THAT!)
More diversion in the movie chapters.
And so on and so forth.
Still need the same ending though so that the transition into Spark and the Shineverse isn't tainted.
Zero Out.
